Bottled. Reddish amber colour with a small beige head. Aroma is plum, raisins, some mild sweet maltyness as well as mild herbal notes. Flavour is raisins, sweet malts, fruits and some floral notes. Old bottle, but nice to see some hops have survived as well.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Brown beer with a crisp palate. Good carbonation. Strong sourish fruit, the spice is subtle. Refreshing.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml bottle from Sainsbury. Beautiful russet colour. Some fruit, lots of boiled sweets and just a bit too sweet on the finish. Ooh. Not very good. Shall I compare thee to an Artic Monkey? No, as you don’t come from somewhere really northern. Oxfordshire is it? More as one of Radiohead’s worse albums. Whatever that means. The bottle of Budvar I had before this makes this look thoroughly shabby.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml. From Sainsburys, Banbury. Chestnut to ruby colour with malty head. What looks like an exceptionally good looking beer quickly disappoints in the flavour department. There is a fuller, rich malty, fruity beer in there somewhere, but you have t get through layers of wet cardboard and indistinguishable spices first, like wrapping on a Christmas present. It is flat and lifeless in the end, and it looked so good in its wrapping, an annual problem unfortunately.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. An amber coloured beer with a rich red hue. Said to be a Christmas beer with plums and spices. I get the plums in what is predominantly a decent fruity malty beer, but the spices are very minimal. Some sugary sweetness and wet paper. Better than average by Wychwood standards.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Piper’s End, New Year’s Eve. Clear chesnut with a pinkish beige collar collapsing to a halo. Nose natural jammy fruit, hint of cask. That sourish yeasty Wychwood thing. Mouth unsickly fruit sweetness, slightly balanced with oily English hop traces, apple and berry fruit, oak, malt nuttiness. Was expecting much worse.
