COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
’Butty Bach’ is Welsh for ’little friend’. This full-bodied, smooth and satisfying premium ale is burnished gold in colour, and certainly has made a few friends in its time.
We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts, flaked barley, malted wheat, and locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite among our followers.

50cl bottle from Sainsbury’s. Large frothy head which dissapates quickly. Orange. Aroma difficult to describe, yeasty and chemically but better once it’s in the mouth. Oily and fizzy in the palate with a sweet but acidic flavour. Disappointing.

Cask, hand pulled at The Wellington,Birmingham.Golden pour with off white minimal head.Malt aroma with some flowery notes hinted at.Malt and hop flavour with a hoppy finish.Tried this on gravity at pubs nearer the brewery and always seems all the better for it poured straight from the cask.

Bottle conditioned, Orange gold colour with medium head. Slightly sweet aroma. Taste is sweet malts a little bread. Smooth on the palate. I used to drink this a lot on cask and I remember it tasting better, maybe my tastes have changed in the last 5 years plus.

Maybe this beer should be drank when its fresh, because the bottled version was bland, had no head, and had a metallic aftertaste. Practically no perceptable hops, malt profile was very subdued, with no richer flavors other than pale grist.

Deep red/orange with little or no head. Hoppy slightly carmel nose. Light throughout the palate, showing some maltiness. Bitter hoppy finish. Very light and not that interesting.

Bottle from my Dad. Thanks Dadster. Cloudy orange/golden bitter with a good head. Faint, floral hops aroma. Subtle yeasty hops taste with some citrus in the finish. Abrupt. Refreshing. Not spectacular.
