COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available bottle conditioned. Occasionally available on cask.
The fields of barley ripening in the sunshine; the hops climbing up the bines in late summer... It was sights like these that inspired Dorothy to create her Country Ale.
Made with all-natural ingredients, it’s a must for any discerning drinker who savours the summer and cares about the countryside.
This strong, full-bodied ruby ale can be enjoyed on its own or as a partner to red meat dishes, cheeses and even rich steamed puddings.

Clear rubyish brown with basically no head, just a few sudsy soap bubbles (big ones). An extremely roasty, burnt ale, with lots of bitterness up front. Like chewing on a charred log that's been sitting in the embers of a fire. Overdone and massively disappointing. I would not drink this again.

Bottle Conditioned. Redish brown beer with mid head, low condition. Strong dark flavoured beer with a toffeeish undercurrent. Some boiled hop notes with a vegetable, cabbagy note. Nothing special despite the ABV.

Amber with medium white head. Aroma is malts, caramel, touch of smoke / tobacco. And a definite hint of cheap hot dog. More tobacco in flavour, more malts and caramel, some spice, little alcohol burn. Thin mouthfeel.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2010 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot), trace yeast (dough), with light notes of vanilla, paper, prune. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Not much to say; a pretty dull beer. Rather tart in a not-so-pleasant way.

Pours a chestnut amber with a thin and soon-forgotten head. Aroma is anglo-hops and pinched sweetness. Tastes like a slightly over-powered ESB. Good carbonation, thinnish body. Nothing to write home about.

Clear amber beer, small white head. Light dry palate. Well balanced toffee malt and bitterish marmalade hops. A little malt cream. Finishes very dry. Okay but too dry.

500 ml bottle (labeled as "Our Glass") from Julios Liquors in Westborough, MA (Feb 2006). Served at cellar temperature in a Chimay glass. No date, of course, like you’d want to know how old this 6% English beer is before shelling out $5. Sigh, my own fault. Anyway, it’s muddy dark brown with a dried blood-reddish haze to it, just a tiny touch of immediately dying head...nose is caramel, touch buttery but not overly so, quite oaky, oxidized, rather elegant to my nose but also faint and old....the body is port-like, smooth and oxidized with light hints of metal, upon which light cherry flavor and woody somewhat astringent hops rest....grows drier after midpalate though the beginnning thinness of the beast is less apparent. Lovely bottle, not quite so lovely contents.
