Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned. AKA Hereford Pale Ale.
HPA is a truly delightful pale ale. Itís smooth on the palate, and boasts a citrus hop aroma leading to a balanced bitter finish.
Locally grown Target and Styrian Goldings hops play an important part in making this such a distinctive beer. With Maris Otter pale malt and malted wheat also being used, this is very much a pale ale with all the right ingredients.

Bottle from Booths, Keswick. Pale golden, almost clear coloured with a light floral and lemon fruity flavour followed by a slight bitter-sweet finish.

Very, very pale. Any paler and it would be water. Not a huge aroma and the initial flavour is a sourness which mellows into gentle dry malt. Not over-blessed with flavour or finish but this is nonetheless a pleasant and refreshing beer with no real vices.

Draught. Pale straw colour with one-finger white head. Green fruit and associated acidity dominate the aroma. Moderate but short-lived bitterness provide good drinkability. Solid example of a light refreshing summer british ale.

Cask at the Black Horse, Bridgnorth. Light gold with a full and proud white head. Sulphurous aroma with a suggestion of lemon and grain. Taste is self routs, bittersweet with that eggy aftertaste. Refreshing enough but it doesnít taste particularly good. Far too Burton-y.

Cask at The Holy Inadequate, Etruria. A clear golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of biscuity malts, honey, subtle vanilla, some apple, slight lemon and spicy hops. Taste is quite sweet of honey, light lemon, biscuity malts, some apple and spicy, herbal hops. Light bodied and a soft carbonation. A crisp, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. An enjoyable pint, though average overall.

Cask at The White Lion, Disley, Cheshire, £3.10/pint. Pours pale golden with thick white head. Aroma is weak but sweet with some citrus. Taste opens with slight sweet citrus, some biscuit on a mid-length finish. Okay

Bottle from Waitrose, Witney. Golden with a fading white head. The aroma is mild citrus and spice. The taste is the same. Very dull english golden ale.

This beer is all about the distinctive bitter finish. When you swallow it down it has a unique but brief whack of flavour thatís unlike anything else Iíve tried. I can only describe it as 3 dimensional. Bottled the finish is floral honey. On cask itís much better - superbly dry and heady. Proper Midlands session ale. Love it.

A nice light pale ale with good happiness but a bit too light to be great. Colour pale straw with big creamy head. Very little aroma but what there is floury with some lemon. Nice soft palate with low carbonation. Light taste with good balance of sweet and bitter. Good hoppy bitterness comes through at end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the Wellington; clear golden yellow pour with a bubbly white head, a touch of citrus in the aroma, taste has light citrus, pale malts, crisp and clean golden.
