4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Near-black pour with large, tight, lacing head. Roasty aromas pair with some really nice, subtle, noble hop smells. Rich, roasty, and slightly bitter and spicy. Creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. An excellent chocolaty finish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
December 22nd, 2012 - Now here’s a beer worth the brewery visit by itself, and GABF judges agree. Dark and black on the body, and ringed with a halo of cream colored foam on top, there’s not much special happening just with looks. But a curious nose can immediately recognize that something good is lurking in that glass. Smoked peat, barbecue, and pulled pork blend to form a savory, salivary-inducing aroma. The taste is a bit stranger, somewhat carbonated and a thinner palate that seems at odds with the flavors, but the tastes are all there, borrowed from the aroma, and filled with the same meaty, meal-like tastes that make this stand out from the other Wynkoop tasters in line.

Beer poors black, with deep ruby color when held to the light. Nice tan head and good clarity. Aroma is roasty with floral, earthy hops. No off flavors and low esters. Beer has a nice smooth roast, light sweetness, and non overpowering hop bitterness. Creamy palate and VERY smooth. Overall great beer. I’ll definately get this again.
