Mellow oaky aroma. Medium body, intense late oak flavor, smooth mouthfeel, alcohol character. Slightly "hot" alcohol finish - nice.

Flavor: rich fruity malt flavor, nice sweetness us followed by a peppery alcohol hotness, earthyness follows to add some balance,

Smell: Aroma comprised of caramel malts, dark fruits, and an earthy hop presence.
Taste: Bready caramel malts, moderately sweet. Light raisiny fruitiness. An equally moderate hop bitterness as well as the booze help temper the sweetness. Slightly bitter, drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

CaptainCougar (4599), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 22, 2008 Growler thanks to shp555: Pours a transparent copper amber amber with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh citrusy grapefruity hops and rich caramely malt with a fresh light fruity character. Starts fairly full and caramely sweet with a toasty malty and dark caramel sweetness with a lot of light fruity complexity before and alightly drier finish. A pretty nice barleywine.
