COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Charles is a classic E.S.B. cask conditioned and dry hopped with Cascades. 10% crystal malt gives this ale a deep brick colour and a slight roast flavor. The E.S.B. is bittered with Bullion hops and is finished with Cascade and Willamete hops.

On draft at Wynkoop. Pours a hazy orange amber with a white head. Nose is light fruit, some malt, and mild hops. Flavor is similar with some mild fruit and some mild grassy hops. Wears its heart on its sleeve; light in body and a somewhat fruity ESB.

Hand pump at Wynkoop. Amber-brown, looks filtered. Big creamy head. Room/cellar temperature, low carbonation, pretty true to the UK style. Quite mellow, toasty, with some fruity ale yeast tones. Refreshingly true to style, but still rather unexceptional.

Thank god I had this beer on cask, because I do not think I could palate it otherwise - fuck this beer - tastes astringent, with bile-like acidity - rotten apple and bready malt - bitter grapefruit pith - bleck!

On tap at Wynkoop Brewery. Orangey brown in color, not unlike tea that’s not fully steeped. Ivory head. Almost no aroma. But the aroma that is in there is mild hops. Taste is odd. I’m getting some burnt toast, wheat flour, pale malt, and a little caramel. Just a messy taste profile with little to no carbonation. A shame.

Amber appearance with a big head. Sweet malty aroma. Warm, creamy and not very flavorful in tast. Cask conditioned.

Cask at the brewpub. Pours light amber with a creamy white head. Very florally English. Lots of Kent-like bitter. Nice.

Hazy amber pour. The nose is a little bit fruity with a touch of cherry and apple sweetness. Some melon flavour and an odd rotted fruit component as it starts to warm. Gets sweeter and odder the warmer it gets… no thanks
