3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Wynkoop. Pour is murky brown with a small tan head and decent lacing. Big toffee, raisins, caramel, figs, brown sugar, bourbon, woody, prunes, and dark fruits in the aroma. Taste is big bourbon, toffee, raisins, prunes, candi sugar, caramel, butterscotch, boozy, somewhat grapefruity, and bread with an alcoholic burn on the finish. Sticky body with high carbonation. A bit too sweet, unbalanced and boozy or my liking.

Pour on tap at the CO rare beer tasting 2012, dark brownish pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of big caramel, toffee, caramelized sugars, some candied dark fruits, lots of whiskey and bourbon notes, slight dry notes from the oak, vanilla notes in there as well. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, toffee, vanilla, lots of whiskey, oak, and bourbon notes with some slight raisin, dark fruit notes, finishing boozy but not overly so for being 14%. Pretty nice.

Tried on tap at the Bacon and Beer Festival. Alcohol-like aroma with notes of vanilla, brown sugar, and hints of bourbon. Pours dark brown with very little head. Tastes very sweet with brown sugar, bourbon, subtle vanilla and raisin notes. Very smooth finish with a hint of alcohol. Excellent barley wine.

Tap at Wynkoop Beers of the Year 2012. Murky chocolaty brown, no head. Boozy sugary aroma of brown sugar, vanilla, oak, raisins, and light bourbon. Amazing taste of sweet dark oak, vanilla, brown sugar, plum, stone fruit, with a sweet boozy finish. Powerful, and amazing.

Rackhouse Colorado Rare Beer Tasting. Pours a brown appearance with a tan head. Thick Stranahan’s whiskey, caramel, dark fruity nose. The flavor is incredibly strong with the whiskey really over shining everything else. Some notes of raisins, dates, and plums. So very strong!
