Bottle: Thanks Derek: Chouffe glass: Black beer. Creamy vanilla brown head. Aroma is soft ’n subtle, sweet with roasty tones, light liquorice, some wood, fruity brett, very nice. Interesting beer. Flavour is strange (in a good way), something new happening for the tastebuds, well done: liquorice, ash, wood, roast, coal, brett and smoke... Aftertaste is bitter, wood, light bretty, roast and some more... Good. Low carbo, light creamy silky mouthfeel, close to full bodied. Interesting stuff!

500 ml bottle from The Party Source. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized khaki head that collapses quickly. The aroma had lightly smoked malts, chocolate, peat, whiskey barrel character, dark fruits, with an earthy character. The flavor is much of the same; light smoke, chocolate, peat, whiskey barrel, subtle black coffee, dark fruits, plum, earthy and some roast. Medium bodied, though more viscous than the base, mild whiskey, and light smoke, an improvement on the base.

Woodshed 3.0! Sample courtesy of Sparky. 50cl bottle pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, a dash of chocolate, a bit of a chocolate brownie sensation, molasses and soft thin whiskey. The taste delivers a nice wedge of dark roasted malts and dark roasted coffee to go along with lesser notes of smooth whiskey and subtle soft smokiness. This could use an aromatic smoke presence. Still, a darn nice brew.

Sampled @ Woodshed 3.0! Not sure who brought this but glad ya did! Onyx body with a small cola-colored head. Cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, whisky, and toffee. Nothing terribly interesting, but enjoyable. Solid.

Draught at SBWF ’13. Opaque black liquid with small to medium light brown head. Aroma of smoke, bourbon, oak, pine, bread, dried fruit and licorice. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of oak, licorice, dried fruit and smoke. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite nice.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. This is a deep dark brown looking one, it has a small low off-white top. Loaded with cognac and whisky smoke on the nose initially. Some darker roasted nuances in the back after a while, but peated smoky whisky dominates the nose. Well, it dominates the taste as well. A good amount of roasted or even burned wood. A bit one dimensional as the burned whisky-oak lingers forever. I kinda like it though. 03.05.2013

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown/black with a slight dark tan head. Aroma of dark smoked malt. Chocolate notes. Full bodied. Flavor has evergreen, chocolate, light smoke, tobacco, leather, oak, but not coffee? It is very strongly flavored. Fairly complicated. Quite tasty. Finishes per flavor, but more bitter than it started. Good stuff.

Pours black with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma has nice roast but is a bit vegetal. Flavor has nice roasty smoke, mild whiskey, bitter dark chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is dry with slightly smoky roast and whiskey lingering.
