NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressing’s changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obama’s inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

Many thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - first US rater! - pours a turbid black, with a frothy, soapy lace - interesting aroma of cocoa, blueberries, lavender, roasted malt, coffee, spices - the flavor has a mixture of the same, with an emphasis on the roasted malt and coffee - creamy, smooth mouthfeel - moderate bitterness (hop and coffee), but no astringency - a lot of smoke, but it tastes more like the result of phenols than it does of actual smoked malt - quite tasty - thanks, Joe!

Heated rating 15 min.s after.... Bottle from Ølbaren. Looks great being pitch black and with a nice lingering head. Smell at first a little musty and odd but after heating up I get the peated malt claerly. Very crisp and dry on the tongue wich I find leaves great room for the roasted thingies and the chocolate and the tar and peat.Ends crisp, bitter and refreshing which are features too rare in a stout. Very Good! - but still a little strange on the nose....

bottle. Beige creamy average head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Black color. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, mild smoke. Also mild citrus and floral notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation, dry texture. Moderated bitter and sweet flavor in balance. Dry bitter roasted coffee finish.

Bottle @ Ølbutikken, Cph (release).
Pours redish black with a nice, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has nice, dark chocolate, soft smoke and lightly roasted. Some hops peep through. Low carbonation with a slightly thin and watery feel. Flavour is very nice, though it is very dry. Lots of ashes, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Some sugary sweetness that tries to balance the ashy dryness, but never really succeeds. Good, but a tad unbalanced.

Black with a lasting tan head. Aroma has chocolate, coffee, a hint of peat smoke and some citrus hop. Dry and roasted, licorice dominated, flavour with C-hop bitterness and a slight hint of peat adding complexity. I didn’t know Barack was this bitter, but I’ll take Xbeeriment’s word for it.
