COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressing’s changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obama’s inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

Not very sweet, but quite a bit of bitterness. Yeasty, both in taste and aroma. Very dark in colour, head is brown. (50 cl bottle)

0.5l bottle. Mr.President pours a dark dark brown body - almost black - with a medium sized creamy and bubbly chocolate head. Aroma is quite different. Earthy, roasty and sweet. Also kinda smoky with some wood, there’s also some chocolate in here with hints of caramel, hops and fruity yeast (ripe melon). Soft carbonation, thick oily mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Tastes quite hoppy, some dark chocolate, and it ends bitter with a watery finish and a roasted aftertaste with lots of smoke! A bit different this stout, but I kinda like it.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen
Black color; creamy beige head. Aroma of burnt coffee (do you know that coffee should be roasted, not burnt like Starbucks and the likes do???), and the dusty Danish yeast. Reasonable body strength, good dark chocolate flavor, roasted malt, limited but pleasant residual sweetness; bold bitterness. Solid and pleasant, without being impressive.

From a bottle at GBF 2011. Black with medium beige head. Dry rioasted dark chocolate aroma, with some smoke, and resiny hops. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Fairly dry, medium bitterness.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a pitch black body, more black than Obama ever was. This is more like Malcolm X, with a big, creamy near-beige head on top, reminiscent of the white yoke holding the black man down for so many years. Oh well, political imagery aside, nose gives me toasted bread, leather and coffee, with hints of black berries. Taste is a hoppy excursion into stout land: piney, grassy hop tones gives way to coffee, hints of leather and licorice. In the end, hops prevail and ensure a rather bitter and near-fruity grassy finish. Feels almost like a light black-and-tan; which is probably appropriate for the interracial summit of American politics so amply illustrated by the rise of mr. President Obama. A very nice and quite original stout from Xbeeriment.

Bottle at a Paul’s tasting. Dark pour with tan head. Cocoa, dark roasted malts, some fruit, almost milk stout and has a touch of grass. Has a bit of booze showing through but drinks like a porter.
