3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great look with fat light brown head. Aroma-flavor of flowerwood, coffeechocs, small hints of smoke, roasty bitterness, good carbonation and a longlasting brew ending up bitter for an hour.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: dark chocolate, roasty coffee, hint of smoke
Appearance: Dark brown to black, hazy. Small beige head, disapears fast.
Taste: More of the roasty malt with a coffe touch. Dark chocolate.
Palate: Heavy body, feels very thick and creamy (In the beginning I felt I could drink this with a spoon), low carbo. Long medium-heavy bitter in the end.
Overall: A very tasteful and heavy stout. On the edge of becomming too bitter in the end, could be just little bit more balanced, but overall a beer that tastes as good as when you open the bottle as after an hour in the glass.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Deep black body with a dark brown edge, very creamy lasting mocca head; Excellent very well put together aroma, the more you put it to your nose the more refined and deeper it gets, it has everything: the creamy soft chocolate without being the least vulgar, the roasted malty fruitiness without being neither dry or floral, the piney resin without being to sharp, extremely nice; The body is very interesting but no at the same level as the nose and maybe a little more interesting then really good, there is some thing invisible about it either it is the texture being extremely soft at the same time as being a little watery, maybe it is the fine combination of balanced sweetness and dry roastedness; It finishes very long and grows in bitterness to something that last very and quite dry, at another level you have a cream like soft sweetness almost like condensed milk, it makes again a very interesting combination, this with a very light roasted bitterness makes again a very very interesting combination. Very very interesting and very good beer!

1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Beer pours black with a tiny white foam. Citrusy hop aroma provides a dank musty aroma when combined with the peat malt. Flavor provides a sharp hop bite. Black malt bitterness and excessive hop is an undesirable combination. Finish is acrid and pungent. Like the person its named for. Oops, is that too much?

Had at the Porter on a very snowy day-perfect. Pours dark brown/black with light brown head. Strong aroma of expresso with a little cedar. Full bodied creamy chocolatey palate has more expresso and smokey flavors. Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle purchased fifteen months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($10.89). This must be the first edition as it is labeled at 10.4%. Pours a true pitch black with a full three fingers of fluffy tan-grey head that has good retention. Aroma of stale, peaty, and somewhat burnt malts along with notes of roasted nuts, smoked meat, and some chocolate. Flavor has lots of astringent burnt malts, charred wood, liquid smoke, ashtray, dark dark chocolate (more like straight bitter cacao bean), and burnt black coffee. Finishes with more bitter-burnt-astringent flavors on the tongue. The burnt flavors become too much (even at this sub-imperial level of stout), and this could actually use some more sweetness. I suppose the "citrusy hop notes" mellowed out because of my aging this bottle. (188, 695)
