COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressingís changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obamaís inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

From draught at The Bishops Arms, Jšrntorget. Black in colour, pale brown head. Malty, butterscotchy aroma with frozen strawberries and cooked corn. Butterscotchy, fruity, malty flavour, slight toasty and peppery with bitter finish. The finish is bitter, earthy hops. Kind of green to the character, due to the hops I presume.

Not very sweet, but quite a bit of bitterness. Yeasty, both in taste and aroma. Very dark in colour, head is brown. (50 cl bottle)

Bottle. High cereamy and lasting light brown head. Very dark red brown almost black body. Roasted barley malt aroma with nuts coffee and cocoa. A bit sharp and hoppy roasted malt aroma with caramel coffee and cococo. I am afraid that the alcohol is too dominant as the beer feels pretty agressive. High carbonation, long aftertaste.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) - shared by Mirjukka - thanks!
Black, tan head. Stodgy porridgy aroma, and loads of elastoplast. Massively dry and ashy palate. However, itís quite tasty, plenty of fruity and citrussy hops.

Tap at Churchkey as Xbeeriment #44. The pour is a flat, ultra deep ruby. Aroma of soy sauce, burnt cherries, smoke, bacon grease. Taste is dominated by the peated malt, which creates a perfumey, lavender soap character. Unfortunately, the body is much too thin to hold the peat flavors and the palate- well- is pretty absent. Lemon and soy eventually come through.

500mL bottle. Poured deeper brown with a nice lookiní cap of dark tan head. The aroma picked up warm, well-roasted black patent and chocolatey malts with mild accents of campfire smoke.. some green apple took it down a notch in the end. The flavor was a bit more rough.. sharp smoky and acrid roast throughout.. chocolate, black patent, and a little honey at the core.. cocoa and other black roasty bitterness around the edges.. came together better in the end, but the apple showed up again. Medium-bodied with a lot of grainy, dry roast on the palate.. carbonation didnít play much of a factor.. lots of sticky bitterness and light smoke in the end. This wasnít quite there.

Somethingís a little weird about this one, kinda cigarette ashy and not nearly as "smoked malt" as Iíd like. Also, not very much of a stout, kinda sour and not rich or remotely sweet.

Dark brown coloured body with a very prominent ruby and violet glow near the bottom, with a thin, half centimetre tall light-brown head. Aroma of smoked peat, nuts, earth, raisins, alcohol, a bit of coffee and some milk sugars as well. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt and peat flavours with a bit of soy sauce and a little earth, but a very thin finish and a bitterness that is pungent. Aftertaste has a bit of an oaky, earthy finish of malt and peat, but the sugars donít exist and the complexity isnít much more than a cup of starbucks (read overroasted) coffee. Overall, not such a great beer and perhaps missing a stride along the way in the flavour profile and finish - this one didnít have the legs. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 28-May-2012 for US$9.95 sampled at home in Washington on 12-February-2013, the day of the State of the Union Address for the first address of the second term of President Obamaís presidency.
