COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressing’s changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obama’s inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

Bottle at home. Black pour, solid tan head. Aroma is roasted, dark fruits like blueberry and cherry, licorice and coffee. Flavor is dry, roasted, burnt, licorice and cough syrup. Bitter and full bodied. Nice thick flavor and decent balance. Great brew.

16 + ounce bottle from The Wine and Cheese Place. A black beer that has a nice fluffy tan head that very slowly fades. I smell light cocoa with smoke and nuts in the pleasant aroma. Chocolate is the first thing tasted and it is like fudge. After that I taste earthy hops that also add fruit and a bit of bitterness. Molasses is tasted. This is sweet and nicely complex. Hops grow with warming. If you don’t like this beer then wait a while and the flavor will change. The feel is very creamy and smooth. Sweeter beers are in my wheelhouse and this definitely qualifies. Well done. It is almost Presidential!

A - Pours a dark brown-black with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of roasted dark chocolate malts, dark fruits, smoke, vanilla, molasses, black licorice, and a hint of booze. T - Starts off with a mix of dark chocolate malts with some raisin and other dark fruits and some black licorice. Through the middle, some vanilla and smoke comes through with some molasses. The finish is a mix of dark chocolate, smoke, vanilla, dark fruits, molasses, and a touch of booze. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and a touch creamy with a sweet and smokey finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice balanced smoked stout with a nice blend of smoke flavor and base stout.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium to big light tan head. Aroma of peat, chocolate, smoke, toffee, coffee and bread. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of coffee, peat, chocolate, biscuit and toffee. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Very nice with a balanced smokiness.

My Bottom Line :
This wealthy Smoked Stout develops molasses, dark chocolate and peat smoke atop juicy fruitiness and resinous hops in a beautifully cohesive whole.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam tops the darkness.
-Mineral angles appear here and there.
-The nose doesn’t share as many intricacies as the flavor profile.
-The peat smoke is well surrounded by chocolate malt flavors and residual sugars.

Bottle.

Many thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - first US rater! - pours a turbid black, with a frothy, soapy lace - interesting aroma of cocoa, blueberries, lavender, roasted malt, coffee, spices - the flavor has a mixture of the same, with an emphasis on the roasted malt and coffee - creamy, smooth mouthfeel - moderate bitterness (hop and coffee), but no astringency - a lot of smoke, but it tastes more like the result of phenols than it does of actual smoked malt - quite tasty - thanks, Joe!

Bottled@Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Close to black colouir, bige beaige creamy/foamy head. Aroma is fruity hops, espresso, roasted malts, some eat and mild yeastyness. Flavour is cooffee, caramel malts, some yeast and smoke/peat in mild doses. The peat and smoke come through in the aftertaste. A quite pleasant thing.

Bottle - Deep black body with a dark brown edge, very creamy lasting mocca head; Excellent very well put together aroma, the more you put it to your nose the more refined and deeper it gets, it has everything: the creamy soft chocolate without being the least vulgar, the roasted malty fruitiness without being neither dry or floral, the piney resin without being to sharp, extremely nice; The body is very interesting but no at the same level as the nose and maybe a little more interesting then really good, there is some thing invisible about it either it is the texture being extremely soft at the same time as being a little watery, maybe it is the fine combination of balanced sweetness and dry roastedness; It finishes very long and grows in bitterness to something that last very and quite dry, at another level you have a cream like soft sweetness almost like condensed milk, it makes again a very interesting combination, this with a very light roasted bitterness makes again a very very interesting combination. Very very interesting and very good beer!
