4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Deep black body with a dark brown edge, very creamy lasting mocca head; Excellent very well put together aroma, the more you put it to your nose the more refined and deeper it gets, it has everything: the creamy soft chocolate without being the least vulgar, the roasted malty fruitiness without being neither dry or floral, the piney resin without being to sharp, extremely nice; The body is very interesting but no at the same level as the nose and maybe a little more interesting then really good, there is some thing invisible about it either it is the texture being extremely soft at the same time as being a little watery, maybe it is the fine combination of balanced sweetness and dry roastedness; It finishes very long and grows in bitterness to something that last very and quite dry, at another level you have a cream like soft sweetness almost like condensed milk, it makes again a very interesting combination, this with a very light roasted bitterness makes again a very very interesting combination. Very very interesting and very good beer!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Botted gift from Abemorsten. Pours pitch black with a small tanned head. Aroma of roastes malts, liquorice, dark chocolate and weak smoke. Taste is more smoky than suggested by the aroma, smooth mouthfeel, well balanced between malty sweetness and roasty/smoked bitterness, good one.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The initially generous dense beige foam slowly diminishes to nothingness atop the clear/filtered cola brown pour. Fairly complex aroma with both chocolate and coffee aromas to the foreground and a broad range of more subtle nuances, from jammy blackberries/blackcurrant to trace iodine, leathery, coal smoke. Despite the relatively pale colour for a stout, there is more than a trace of roast in here, mostly in the form of coffee overtones and this brings forth a fair bit of acidity which acts, together with the smoke, as a counterpoint to the healthy dose of residual sugars bathing in here. This brings about a thicker than average mouthfeel which is accompanied by a warmer than expected general presence - I suppose I would have guessed it near 9% if blind-tested. In the end, it’s impactful and bigger than the sum of its parts, with fair complexity. On its own, it feels a bit rough edged to me, playing on many fronts at once and lacking focus, but I imagine its smokey, charry, warming character would do marvels with meats from the grill.
