COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. Starting from the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

English: Our basic idea with this beer originated while making Xbeeriment Barack. When we’d done that we thought "What if we took it further?" So we decided to go for it and create an Imperial Stout made with 5 different kinds of malt including substantial amounts of peat smoked malt, roasted barley and 3 different hop varieties. We then added a 4th variety for dry hopping. Finally it was bottled unfiltered, bottle conditioned and left to mature in the bottle for 2 months before release. Serve at 12-14 degrees Celcius (53-57 degrees Fahrenheit).

Bottle 500 ml from bursprak, many thanks! Into a snifter, ABV 10.4% The beer is totally black n colour, with two fingers of dark brown head, with thick enough density and good retention, leaving foamy islands and medium lacing around the glass, after it has collapsed. Aroma full of roasted malts and coffee, vanilla. I don’t get any smoke. Light alcohol aroma after a couple deep sniffs. Taste also of roasted malts, vanilla, wood, just a hint of the smoke now, the alcohol very well hidden and only notable on the finish, light coffee too. Nice bitterness on the aftertaste with good duration. Full body, soft but notable carbonation. Sticky palate. Overall good and tasty beer, with the alcohol so well hidden one must be carefull with this one.

Pours black with a finger of frothy tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, smoked sausage. Taste is coffee, chocolate with some warming alcohol. Body is rich and creamy with nearly flat carbonation.

Bottle - 500ml. Opaque black body with an average beige foamy/creamy head. Complex, rich malty/hoppy aroma with roasted coffee, chocolate, and vanilla hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Its strong malty/hoppy taste carries roasted coffee, grainy, woody, licorice, and sour berries notes. Ends with a long, robust, warming bitter/roasty finish. Awesome!

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good; a dull and opaque black with foamy beige head that slowly dissipates into sticky lacing. Smells of dark malt, smoke, and bitter chocolate. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer.

On tap at Dutch’s. Black color. Nice thin brown head, leaves good lace. Great smoke, roast malt, light dark chocolate, coffee notes.. Hint of dark fruit, very light hint of molasses. Bigger bitterness than your typical imperial stout, much more bitter than typical I think, but I like that. It’s got a very light bite in the finish. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of a thicker, chewy, creamy texture, and a slick finish. A tasty, bitter smoked imperial stout.

9oz pour at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a murky black with some soft, spitty white head. Nose has a ton of roasted malt, some caramel, a little smoke, industrial rubber, pencil lead. Flavor has some soy, some caramel, a little toasted bread, some mold coffee grounds, but I find it to be overwhelmingly burnt. Not smoke, although there is a hint of smoke, but almost like caramel or candy or treacle was poured into the kettle and it burnt on the bottom. Sticky finish.

Black pour with khaki head that sticks around for a long time. Peat smoke and espresso dominate the nose with a sprucy hop note and some dark chocolate underneath. More complex on the palate with some dark fruit shining through and a nice toffee note. I’d like it to be significantly smokier than it is on the palate. There’s a certain coffee bitterness in the finish.
