3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500mL btl, from Systembolaget Luleå.
Cocoa-foam on a dark brown body. Scents of anise, licorice, raisins, chocolate, two kinds of malts there is.
Tastes bittersweet, roasted malts, and barbecue oil, licorice and chololate.
Balanced a bit to the bitter side in the mouth. Ending roasted malts, bitter, very dark chocolate. Overall well done, and two persons may share a bottle for one hour during a nice evening with fruits and grapes on the table, sitting in front of a fireplace, or watching a movie.

Kolsvart med ljusbrunt skum! Lite rökig med inslag av kaffe i doft! Smaken är rökig med kaffe och väldigt lättdrucken utan någon alkohol smak trots 10%+ lite blaskig och smaklös!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from lcbo 10.4% on bottle lcbo tested at 8.8% Poured an almost opaque black. Nice tight beige head. Smell is lightly peety with some roasted coffee and cocoa notes. There is also a big floral hop aroma. The taste is quite nice hoppy, lightly smoked coffee. The mouthfeel is thick and oily and quite enjoyable alcohol is nicely hidden. Overall a unique example of an imperial stout with a good hop presence. Would drink again

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: OCT 28, 2013 (500mL bottle from LCBO) Pours black, dark brown highlights, decent dense pale brown head, lingers and leaves a bunch of lace. Aroma roasted malts, lighter chocolate, fruit from malt (dark grapes, fig) and some fruity hops as well. Salty/smoky peat and wood smoke character, not overpowering. Flavour initially chocolate/lightly roasted malts with fruity hops, dark grape, sweet. Then smokiness starts to pick up over that sweet fruity malt/hops flavour, but still restrained. Licorice on the finish, slight peat, moderate hop bitterness, persistent fruity core. Mouthfeel moderate, silky, low carb, little alcohol. I’d say the LCBO is right about the abv, seems much more like 8.5 than 10.5. Drinks like a big porter more than an impy stout, but a very nice combination of malt, west coast hops and the smoke. Balanced, drinkable.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Lighter black colour with a toffee coloured head. Complex aroma, figs and prunes with roast, chocolate, and an almost brine like aroma that develops more into peat as the bottle opens up. On the palate it is rich, with a bitter hoppy note and toast with flavours of espresso and some pine cones and a hint of whiskey. Very good stuff!!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with a decent mocha head.
Aroma: A mix of peaty and meaty smokes, deep malts, grape juice, molasses and licorice, very big and deep.
Palate: Medium-full body, relaxed effervescence, a bit powdery.
Flav.: Big roasted malts, lots of molasses, a bit of licorice, grape gum, same bipolar smokiness, a little very deep treacle, dark chocolate and black coffee comes through, nice; sweet with good bitterness and a long, inky, deep-roasted malt, smoky finish.
A successful Exbeeriment.
