3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.5l bottle. It pours a thick dark black body with a small bubbly and sidesticking chocolate head. The aroma is dark and sweet with lots of roasted aromas. Also some dark chocolate, something that could be ashes, hops and more lovely sweetness. Soft carbonation, thick and almost chewy mouthfeel and it’s quite full-bodied. Surprisingly hoppy! Almost stingy-hoppy with lots of roasted flavors, light peat, some burned toast and some dry espresso-powder. It kinda falls a bit through in the finish. I’m expecting that lovely malty sweetness found in the aroma but instead the hops completely dominates and makes it kinda watery and a bit to bitter in the finish. Still, a good beer, but it’s almost like there’s something missing.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with a medium sized tan head. Leaving a good lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and smoke. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with alcohol notes. Full bodied, oily text and soft CO2. An excellent imp. stout.★★★★

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Fermentoren. Pours black with a medium sized tan head. Sweet taste of dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee and fruits. Mouthfeel is full and creamy with a long bitter aftertaste of malt, chocolate and vanilla. Feels nicely complex. Overall it works better than the barrel aged XO version. Super good beer.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 mL bottle. Looks about right, although there is not much head. The aroma is relatively subtle, yet complex, with chocolate covered cherries, roasted coffee grounds, burnt caramel, and chocolate milk. The flavour is not as complex, but still good. Bitterness from the roasted in the finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
a solid stout, aided by smoked peat .. . this bottle was about 1 year aged, just didn’t know when to pull it out (unlike my wang) .. . pours a deep black .. average coco headring .. . deep tar, oil, and mild chimney scrapings .. . pretty damn smooth, the abv is done well too .. an awesome beer, would have liked a whole lot more smoke though .. . . . i like the yam biscuits!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 mL bottle at Churchkey in Washington DC, served in a snifter. Pours black with a minimal tan head that fades to a small amount of bubbles without a proper head. The nose has big notes of peat, smoke, roasted malts, molasses and piney hops. The flavour is somewhat sweet with roasty malts, molasses and subtle smoke. This is balanced with piney-citric hops that build towards a long, hoppy-roasty finish. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, syrupy slightly dry texture and minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a nice imperial stout with peat and prominent hops. 2012-06-09
