Nice peaty aroma mixed with the fresh hop. Almost coffee/toffee flavor up front with a dry finish. Must have if you can find it. 10.4 abv comes out as it warms.

Could actually use a bit more in the aroma. This is a meal in the bottle though. A very thick body and head, with lost of smoke and grain. Reminds a bit of Old Rasputin, which is always good. Like the Hoppenheimer, it is quite good at masking the high amount of alcohol. 2 for 2 with these guys, Can’t wait to have more.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours black with ruby edges and a tan head. Smells like chocolate and alcohol with a touch of smoke. Taste is chocolate and hints of alcohol with a blast of smoke at the end, that comes out more as it warms. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Xbeeriment Black Force One finishes with some smoky tones.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black pour, thick milkshake head. Toasty aroma of tar, pumpernickel bread, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Flavor is awesome. Toasty, bitter chocolate, rye seeds, asphalt, espresso. Awesome.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I’m not normally a huge fan of smoke beer as generally it’s so heavy handed with the smoke. I’m not also a big fan of dark beers with heavy molasses or dark ripe fruit flavors as I find the characteristics to clash. I poured this a bit cold with a small to medium size, tan, foamy head that soon settled to a thin filmy cover with some sudsy islands and good lacing. Color is an opaque black brown. Aroma is old leather, roast malt, molasses, dark ripe fruit, and just a little smoke. Flavor and body is where this beer really stands out and compliment one another. Flavor’s a little like nose, but the qualities that I don’t like are well muted and behind the roast malt, the perfect amount of smoke, slight malt sweet, the bitter and carbonic tang. Body/carbonation are untoppable. Finish is like flavor, very drinkable, of average length for this style, and almost no indication of alcohol power. Superior beer!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A Mes rate. Bottle at home HUGE thanks to the legends that are Jan and Charlotte.
Full on black body with a very impressive tan head. Now that’s a good smell. A full on hit of chalky chocolate and bitter hoppage. Excellent, just bloody excellent. Flavour, bugger me. This is full on. Amazing chocolate, amazing bitterness. Big smoky character, some leather, really dry and just all round excellent. The alcohol is hidden really well. Ok there is some faint heat in the mouth, or on the swallow, but other than that it’s just not apparent at all. Simply excellent beer.

50 cl bottle, pours deep dark with a nice big dark head, some lacings and good head retention, aroma is hoppy with notes of chocolate, roasted coffee and peat, taste is the same, full body, decent bitterness, powerfull but still fairly smooth, super beer.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. This pours with a promising delivery, rich and black with a solid, well laced head. The aroma is of licorice, but in a sweet mellow way instead of the assaulting scent you sometimes get in an imperial. This drinks with a nice little kick in the junk, but is also fairly easy to drink, mellow enough that it doesn’t intimidate. Nice late evening sipper after supper. (#4362, 11/21/2011)

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Belmont Station. Colour... absolutely black with a thick, dark tan head. Nose... imagine smoked hops with licorice root! Palate... SWEET, almost cloying, then waves of smoke and hops settle in and stay the night! Nicely smoky, lightly briny and earthy with char, smoked beef jerky, molasses, soy, brown sugar and a lingering hoppy finish! I suspect that this would be a great "brine" for Chinook salmon filets to sit in for a couple days before placing in the smoker!
