COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English: Triple Style Ale aged in Moscatel de Setýbal barrel for 1 year.
There are so many barrel aged beers around, but why is it that most of the time barrel aging is reserved for massive, dark beers? We thought that weíd give it a try to create a complex barrel aged beer out of something completely different than the usual imperial stout or barley wine. So we took our triple style ale, Xbeeriment Leo, and aged it for a year in a Moscatel de Setýbal barrel. The result is an astonishingly complex beerÖÖ..

(Draught at Mikkeller & Friends, Copenhagen, 11 July 2013) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with citrus, glue, tropical fruit and dry sherry. Fruity, sourish taste with notes of citrus, glue, dry sherry and passion fruit. Lots of wine and wood character. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. First I thought there was something wrong with it, but after asking about the beer I realised it was the wine character that is quite dominant. Bitterness kind of disappears. You could probably either hate or love this, but after I while I found it quite enjoyable with an impressive oak character. Very nice.

Draught at Mikkeller&Friends, Copenhagen. Clear golden beer with a small offwhite head. Woody aroma, vanilla, floral, citrus, caramel, yeast notes, grapes, peach, a bit vinous. Woody flavor, glue, quite a lot of alcohol, citrus, spicy notes. Not bad, but kinda odd.

On tap at CBC 2012. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Yeasty-alcoholic aroma. Starts mild-sourish, malty, some fruity hints. Finish milder with fruity-salty notes. Okay.

Draught at Bryggens. Golden with a white head. For years Iíve been trying to get different brewers to put a blond or a trippel on a moscatel barrel. Without me having anything to do with it, Thomas and Anders did something about this craving of mine (and probably theirs as well, as I donít think we ever spoke of this). Stickingyour nose into this is like sticking your nose into a glass of wine. Sweet grapes in abundance with a hint of grain. Flavour is sweet with notes of grapes, bread, yeast and wood. It still leaves a lot of golden belgian beer flavour and has some bitterness to it. Finishes with a lovely and smooth alcohol warmth. This is great. Thanks for making this beer. Only wish I could have been an active part of making it.

Draught at Bryggens ōlbar. Clear golden with a frothy white head, ok retention. Woody aroma. My friend says it smells like glue. He might be right. Flavor has liggt oxidation notes. Very woody, vineous like a sherry. Too vineous - is this a beer a all? Very dry finish. Despite the woodyness I quite like this, but I wonder why beer needs to taste like wine? Doesnít really make sense...
