very weak head; distinct coffee taste; smooth texture; not bad, but probably not worth repeating

Not to bad, almost stoutish to porter in quality and flavor. Not bad for my first Brazilian I just hope Brazil has better than this.

This brew poured a small dark orange brown colored head of fine to medium sized bubbles that left a good alcing. It has a mild aroma of strong malts and a opaque pitch black body. Its palate is very smooth with a mild coffee start and finish with some notes of molasses. This is a very nice black beer to drink!

This brew poured a small dark head with fine-medium bubbles. It had a very smooth taste and flavor to it. The body was black. The aroma was that of chocolate and licorice. I thought this brew was on the thin side which I believe is typical of a Schwarzbier. I did not observe any bitterness or aftertaste with this brew.

I was a little disappointed in this beer. The initial aroma was smokey and dark malty. Adventurous label, pitchy beer, tall tan head, little bits of yeast floaties and a ring of something or other at the waterline in the bottle. The aroma and the appearance promised more than the beer delivered, but it took a knock for the twistoff. Though there are some complexities, it ultimately comes off as being too sweet and too thin. Coffee, brown sugar, a little hazelnut perhaps in the flavoring. The finish is mildly astringent, moving on to mild tartness. Reminded me of Royal the Lion Stout from Trinidad as a malty, tropical dark beer.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Rerate Still a very good Schwarz - not much to change in the description. Picked up at Callandro’s Supermarket - Baton Rouge, La Original 3.6 Deep dark, black as night pour with almost no head whatsoever. Bit of a sweet licorice aroma to it. True to the Schwarzbier style a bit on the thin side so not going to ding it for that. Flavor is sweet and licorice-like - very pleasant. Has a bit of an Ouzu like taste to it. Goes down very smooth. No bitterness whatsoever - stays strong to the finish.

Hmmmm... What is a black beer supposed to taste like? I was expecting something similar to a doppelbock, but this isn't. It looks like a stout, feels like porter. Malty sweet, with little hoppiness or roastiness. Interesting.

Pours black as night. Rich malt, creamy, and sweet. It's more like a porter or maybe an oatmeal stout. I was worried to find a twist-off top. In the end I'm impressed. I think it might be a good choice with a cigar.

Went to a Brazilian restaurant, was told there was a dark beer and a light beer. I chose the dark, out came the Xingu, which I had almost completely forgotten about. Poured a ruby black with a brownish head. Aroma not very enticing. Tasted pretty good though, better than I had recalled. Decent malt body, but not overpowering. Satisfying finish. Don't think I would care much for it alone, but complemented the food very well.

Definitely not the champ of schwarzbiers. real dark with hints of brown/burnt amber on edges. Thin light brown head, a real dark lager. Licorice, some roasteyness and a big malt presence. Very licoricey, a hint of chocolate. A sweet malty finish after a noce smooth clean mouthfeel. Barley and chocolate, a hint of vinuousness. not bad, but cant hold a candle to the Wisconsin schwarzbiers.
