Black color, large head. Medium bodied beer. Roasted malts, coffee-like flavor, a little too sweet tasting. Full flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth and a little thin. Aftertaste is dry and malty. Beer us a little too sweet, but a very refreshing beer.

Pours a dark molasses body with a perfect chocolate head that settles into a ring. Sweet malt aroma with a caramel factor. Crisp malt flavor with a sweet caramel edge having a drawn out depth. This is a surprising stellar dark lager with a moderately complex, sweet body, and an adequately dry finish.

A dark, malty tasting beer. Very little, or no head. Has a sweet, smoked taste to it. Smooth texture. Has a faint roasted peanut texture and taste. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.

A very good very sweet black beer from Brazil. It is probably the best South American beer by far. Very complex and great flavor. Beautiful in the glass. Wonderful mouthfeel. A must.

This smells like a bucket of latex housepaint. Looking perfectly normal, nice and dark, minimal head, I am flabergasted. Little carbonation, it feels like I’m drinking a flat soft drink. This could be a bad bottle, and I’m open for a rerate after seeing such high opinions here. However, the only accuarate description I have is that it tastes like I’m drinking a can of flat black paint.

silky and sable with just a pinstripe of brown to suggest the extremities; the head bloomed like an inflatable raft. some dust-like particulate matter in there doing some lazy inebriated bobbing about in the inky murk. a wafting aroma of cherry and port. tight effervesence is the first impression on the tongue, then sweetness, suggestive of added sugar, as in mackeson. busy melange of flavors: chutney, tamari sauce, oatmeal, currents or slightly burned raisins. moderate edgy bitterness, possibly derived from the steeped bones of a couple lost amazonian missionaries. it tops the few other schwarzbiers i’ve had, which tended to error on the side of being understated. this one has some boldness.
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - AUG 15, 2002
Much darker than expected, deep black with a dark brown head. Nose has lots of cola, some cherries, and a bit of coffee. Flavor is surprisingly sweet, reminscent of cola or Dr. Pepper-ish sweetness. The sweetness is backed by some roasted malts, a bit of fruitiness, and licorice. Palate is quite pleasant, thin, but not watery. Drinkable enough to be refreshing on a hot day, but dark enough to have some heft. A darn nice schwarzbier, best I’ve had of the style.
