Dark beer with a hint of chocolate. Nice thick head. Leaves almost a sweet aftertaste of fruite. Very nice.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black-brown with aromas of molasses and anise. Sweet and smooth with a syrupy malty flavor that is thick and chewy. Mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Rich and creamy with a dark roasted aspect. Somewhere between a porter and stout. Very unique flavor profile.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
OK black appearance with a bit of head. And lace. Some licorice initial scent, that carried into first taste then dissipitated. A big bottle, thanks Joey for coming to help me finish. Bit aggressive carbonation.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A nice black color along the lines of a porter with a dark tan head. The aroma offers chocolate as well as some malt. Sweet malt taste very much like Malta. Not a bad beer to try.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Black with some reddish highlights. Weak aroma, what there is smells of cola with some caramel. Not much character in the flavor, and it has a weird sourness.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Fresh bottle but not very impressive. Hardly any nose whatsoever. Rich, dark appearance but a thin head that doesn’t coat much. Tastes bitter due to the roasted malt rather than the hops, I suspect. Frankly, it tastes like a cold cup of joe mixed with half a bottle of flat Pepsi topped off with a couple of teaspoons of sugar stirred in. Not awful, just not near as good as the style would suggest.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle of unknown vintage @ Chester’s in Hamilton. Black body with ruby tinges on the edges and a good sized beige head. Mild roast and notes of dark chocolate accenting sweet malt in the aroma. Flavour is similar, sweetly malty with a soft roast throughout. Robust. Medium to full bodied. Surprisingly good, I wasn’t expecting much.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black w/ rocky finger of brown foam. Sweet, malty aroma of licorice, milk chocolate, & caramel. Medium, somewhat syrupy feel. Flavour is semi-sweet w/ a nice light roastiness & notes of licorice, molasses, milk chocolate, & cedary hops.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
I tried this a few years ago when it first came out and I thought it was watery crap. I must have had a bad bottle as this isn’t entirely crappy.
Pours a pitch-black color with a nice tan head (after a vigorous pour) which left a very nice lace down the glass. It’s already scored higher than the last time I rated it.
Aroma is very sweet, almost too sweet, actually, with some serious fruits hiding in the background.
Flavor is also very sweet with both dark fruits (dates) and some lighter ones (apricots, strawberries?). It kind of reminds me of a wine cooler or malternative, as in "Seagrams Black Cherry" or something like that, only not nearly as crisp. Eh: not bad, but I’m not a fan of the flavor, and it’s too sweet for the style (Schwarzbier).
Palate is creamy, almost like a Sweet/Oatmeal Stout, but kinda sickening-sweet. Overall, I’m glad I gave this another shot as I had a bad representation before, but this definately is not my cup of beer.
