3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brown. Just brown. The aroma is malty and has some alcohol in the aroma (smells like a brown ale). The flavor is dark, roasty, and caramely. It has a sweet finish with some bitterness in the background (not hop bitterness, more of a grain bitterness). Satisfying. It has some sediment at the bottom, as well.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep dark color with an amber head that lingers. Aroma & taste of coffee, raisins, and light chocolate. Interesting, different, and worth a try. Definitely not your typical schwarzbier.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2010 Had from 12 oz. bottle from Hi Time Wine on June 15, 2010. Pours a dark brown/black with slight tan head. Aroma of toffee and malts. Taste is very watered-down and weak. A sweet flavor with nice malt flavors and seemingly no hops. Creamy, slight carbonation. Used to be one of my favorite black beers back in the day. These days, I know that there are much more flavorful black beers out there and this lager just doesn’t cut the mustard any more.

Only my second Scharzbier, I wasn’t really sure what to expect, the first one I had was a bit thin with no real substance - the Xingu raised my appreciation for this beer type. The aroma is faint, but more noticeable than the Kostriker with a slight waft of sweetness coming off the beer. It pours with a dark black appearance and a good sized brown head. The flavor of this Schwarzbier was much "fuller" than the Kostriker - a bit more carbonation than I expected, it could lose a bit here and be a bit better. This beer dances on the palate with carbonation and a smooth, easy drinkability. An interesting beer, and one I’d drink again - a nice change of pace in the beer-drinking world. Now - I just need to find some of the higher rated Schwarzbiers.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beautiful black color with a big light brown head, moderate lacing. Malty, sweet nose not unplesant. Full flavored with a wonderful mouthfeel. My only criticism of this brew is that the sweetness in my opinion is overdone to the point of being sugary.

very weak head; distinct coffee taste; smooth texture; not bad, but probably not worth repeating

Not to bad, almost stoutish to porter in quality and flavor. Not bad for my first Brazilian I just hope Brazil has better than this.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This brew poured a small dark orange brown colored head of fine to medium sized bubbles that left a good alcing. It has a mild aroma of strong malts and a opaque pitch black body. Its palate is very smooth with a mild coffee start and finish with some notes of molasses. This is a very nice black beer to drink!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This brew poured a small dark head with fine-medium bubbles. It had a very smooth taste and flavor to it. The body was black. The aroma was that of chocolate and licorice. I thought this brew was on the thin side which I believe is typical of a Schwarzbier. I did not observe any bitterness or aftertaste with this brew.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
I was a little disappointed in this beer. The initial aroma was smokey and dark malty. Adventurous label, pitchy beer, tall tan head, little bits of yeast floaties and a ring of something or other at the waterline in the bottle. The aroma and the appearance promised more than the beer delivered, but it took a knock for the twistoff. Though there are some complexities, it ultimately comes off as being too sweet and too thin. Coffee, brown sugar, a little hazelnut perhaps in the flavoring. The finish is mildly astringent, moving on to mild tartness. Reminded me of Royal the Lion Stout from Trinidad as a malty, tropical dark beer.
