3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 29, 2003 Aroma has a heavy malt emphasis, grainy and lightly toasted. Sweet, lightly charred and vreamy on the palate, very light carbonation. Slightly fruity, chocolaty and well spiced in the middleand a noted bitterness in the finish. Some licorice motes towards the end and fruitiness in the finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Opaque with dark brown edges. Sticky dark tan head. Nice lacing. Burnt and roasted caramel aroma. Fairly light bodied. Huge black malt acidic twang. Light bitter chocolate and coffee. Dry. Clean finish. Long bitter aftertaste. Watery sweetness. Decent flavor but needs body and more depth. Actually gets better and maltier the longer it sits unattended. Not as good as I remember. I wonder if the guys in Sepultura drink this?

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled. Coal-black body with one of the darkest heads I’ve seen; weak chocolaty aroma; flavor very sweet, reminds me for some reason of Tootsie Rolls; some hoppy bitterness, but not enough to counteract the overpowering sweetness. I like sweet beers, but this seemed cloying and one-dimensional. Probably won’t be able to finish the bomber-sized bottle.

My first brazilian beer. Not bad actually. Dark, with a rocky brown head. Sweet and smooth with a hint of licorice, so i thought. Pretty good beer.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2003 Pretty nice and a harder to find style. Burnt raisins, smooth roatiness that us unprecedented and solid bitterness. Lacking in body is my only complaint. Decent head that sticks.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I wasn’t expecting much from it (I know a lot of Germans emigrated to South America over the past 100 years, but Brazilian Schwarzbier?) but I was pleasantly surprised. Very smooth and less bitter than the strong color suggests. Some have mentioned an aftertaste of medicine, though I didn’t notice it. All in all, a good dark beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good, but not everyday. Almost like Guinness laced with cachaca, which the faint alcohol/medicinal aftertaste suggests.

Only paid 2 bucks for the bottle, so I guess I can’t complain. Good German-style schwarz.

Sweet and bitter. More like a stout.
