A very good very sweet black beer from Brazil. It is probably the best South American beer by far. Very complex and great flavor. Beautiful in the glass. Wonderful mouthfeel. A must.

This smells like a bucket of latex housepaint. Looking perfectly normal, nice and dark, minimal head, I am flabergasted. Little carbonation, it feels like Iím drinking a flat soft drink. This could be a bad bottle, and Iím open for a rerate after seeing such high opinions here. However, the only accuarate description I have is that it tastes like Iím drinking a can of flat black paint.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
silky and sable with just a pinstripe of brown to suggest the extremities; the head bloomed like an inflatable raft. some dust-like particulate matter in there doing some lazy inebriated bobbing about in the inky murk. a wafting aroma of cherry and port. tight effervesence is the first impression on the tongue, then sweetness, suggestive of added sugar, as in mackeson. busy melange of flavors: chutney, tamari sauce, oatmeal, currents or slightly burned raisins. moderate edgy bitterness, possibly derived from the steeped bones of a couple lost amazonian missionaries. it tops the few other schwarzbiers iíve had, which tended to error on the side of being understated. this one has some boldness.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Much darker than expected, deep black with a dark brown head. Nose has lots of cola, some cherries, and a bit of coffee. Flavor is surprisingly sweet, reminscent of cola or Dr. Pepper-ish sweetness. The sweetness is backed by some roasted malts, a bit of fruitiness, and licorice. Palate is quite pleasant, thin, but not watery. Drinkable enough to be refreshing on a hot day, but dark enough to have some heft. A darn nice schwarzbier, best Iíve had of the style.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Heavy body than a german schwartz, but definately more satifying, rich sweety, roasted coffee and a hint of choclate.

This beer was excellent. Nice and thick, but with sweet roasted grain malts. Kind of like a very thin sweet stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Did not live up to the hype. An above average to average stout. Decent chocolate, not enough roasted malt flavor. No complexity and slightly grainy. I beleive if the name was less exotic and was not a Brazilian stout, that this brew would receive a lot less hype.

Xingu is, IMHO, the champ of the Schwarzbier category. Itís drinkable in large quantities, which is good b/c the bottle is immense! Better than Sprecher Black Bavarian, which is too damn malty!

oooooh, donít be afraid of the Schwarz!! This is one of the best Iíve had. kind of like a sweet stout for summer weather. Lots of roasted chocolate. thicker than many of this style. as good as Kostritzer.

Rerate, not as I remebered it. This is a strightforward dark lager. Some chocolate, very little in the way of roastiness. Thinnish body, and not a lot of hops.
