When I first poured this beer into my scooner glass I noticed the aroma. The wife also noticed that right of the bat when I poured the beer. It had the aroma of being in a musy old bar which brought me back to those days bartending at the bowling alley. Good beer would reconmend it.

Bottle. Dark dark dark red with a big tan head. Thereís not much aroma to speak of ... mostly musty and coffee. It doesnít really taste like much, some coffee, some chocolate milk, thatís about it. Not bitter, not dry, not sweet, not smooth, not bad, not good, it just is.

Bottle - Pours a clear, dark reddish black/brown with a very thin tannish head that quickly disappears ... carbonation is low. Very slight roasted malt aroma. Flavor is a bit unusual and ot very strong... almost like a diluted red wine. Little evidence of maltiness or hops. Finish is weak with not bitterness. Unusual and not really that good.

Reddish black with light brown head that diminishes quickly , slight lace. Slightly roasty nose, some oxidation, light caramel, molasses and grainy notes. Medium-light body, sugary sweet, in a flat pepsi kinda way. Very little bitterness. Not all that good IMHO.

Deep dark brown, nearly black, with a frothy brown head. Sweet milky scent, chocolatey, but not strong. Flavor is mild and light. Very lagery, with notes of sugared corn. Where this isnít great, for some reason itís satisfying... and very easily drinkable.

Almost black color, brownish tan head. Light aroma, mild chocolate, light milk. Flavor is sugary sweet, with some notes of coffee. Light bodied, a little too light, short finish. Decent.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2009 Aroma smells like a busch beer. Corn and slight sweet malts. Mostly opaque black with a small thin light tan head. Metallic, thin, watery, hints of sweetness. Another thin, sweet, watery foreign stout...(5/3/3/2/6)RE-RATE--12 ounce bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Aroma is musty with some minerals. Light on the sweetness. Some esters present. Mostly opaque mahogany body with a rocky off-yellowish head. Starts pretty sweet and sugary with some chocolate notes, before a ton of fruity esters...apples, grapes, and berries, oh my. A little roastiness is present later, but this is pretty thin and rather flawed.

10.26.04 12oz bottle. This beer poured almost balck with a medium brown head. Aromas are very light caramel and chocolate. Flavor is actually quite bland, not much going on but a watery, sugary mess. What the heck is this supposed to be? Mild brine to finish as if a touch of soy was added to this fizzy simple syrup. Quaffable, sure, but I just donít get the style. Reminds me of Strohís, if Strohís was sweeter and black. Also makes me weirdly aware of my teeth. for some reason. Everything Iíve ever not liked about schwarzbier (which Iíve come to enjoy recently) is embodied in this stuff.

Pours a dark brownish black, large tan head. light lacing.
Aroma is light caramelized sugar and malt.
Flavor is sweet, coffee with too much sugar kind of flavor.
Creamy mouthfeel with a short and sweet finish.
ok beer. I might buy this again if it were $6 a six pack, but at $8 a sixer I donít think so.
