4.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - MAR 20, 2009
12 oz. bottle. Pours a ruby black with a small tan head. The head fades quickly leaving no lacing behind. The aroma is subtle with notes of toffee, molasses, raisins, and some malt. Very fine carbonation with a rich mouthfeel. Rich roasted malt, prune, a little oat, and molasses on the palate. Sticky mouthfeel, but nothing really lingers. Towards the end I get hints of tobacco as well. I found it hard to find something wrong with this beer. Well put together and a pleasure to drink.

Wicked,my first Brazilan rating.I like Schwarzbiers .They’re my thing & we need more on the scene. This is ok but a little subdued. Nothing like the imortal Herold black lager.Oily,earthy-and sweet ,with chocolate and soy sauce.Lacks base and guts. Eazy to slam I guess.

Light notes of caramel and licorice. Pours black with a frothy tan head at first, but soon fades and laces well. Slight flavors of coffee caramel and licorice, though none are overpowering. Somewhat bitter in the end. meh.

330ml bottle (K CM Kamppi, Helsinki)
Very dark, beige head. Stodgy malty porridge aroma, a bit sweet, heads towards mammi and malted milk biscuits as it warms. Pleasant carbonation. Grainy and roasty porridge and malt loaf taste, including the raisins. Some light coffee too. Old dusty finish, sweet and a little treacly for a while then drops back onto hints of dry husky grains. Looks good, and goes down very well at the end of the evening

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 curly (2193) - Seattle (Newcastle), Washington, USA - MAR 5, 2009
Pours a near pitch black, half inch tan head. Caramel and cherry-like aroma. Not quite dynamic as it could be, finish is a sweet caramel then bitter coffee. A little cloying. But an interesting beer.

4-20-08. Bottle. Pours jet black with a nice tan head. Smells of soy and malt. Tastes of sick fruit, worcheshire sauce, honey, and malt grains. The weirdest taste I’ve encountered yet. Not good. Maybe just against my grains, because i was expecting better.
