4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Drink4Satan (666) - Frederick, Maryland, USA - SEP 27, 2011
Snifter. 12oz split with a friend. Nearly black with ruby edges. Minimal head. No retention. Aroma of chestnuts, walnut, brown sugar and tasty wort. The flavour is sweet up front, dry in the finish. Poundable session beer with medium carbonation and a thin, silken palate. Flawless for the style. Can’t complain about any aspect, really, and this is a style I appreciate very much.

Pours black, dark amber around the edges, tan head. Aroma is roasty malts...dunno what else. Watery, little roastyness, strange sweetness. Maybe some chocolate? Not very complicated stuff, meh.

Black gold…. that was my first thought when I poured this brew. Pleasant scents filled with sweet molasses, dark chocolate and slow-roasted malts. A hearty, foamy head stayed well for quite a while. But the taste… ooooh how smooth it was… so smooth I had to keep telling myself that this was beer! The taste was just a tad sweet but there was no detection of any bitterness at all! The flavors of sweet molasses, chocolate and malts come through so teasingly well in this black beer. One reviewer somewhere even said it “smells like cocoa krispies, tastes like heaven” … yeah I can see where they would say that!! This is definitely one full bodied, easy to drink black beer that you don’t want to pass up when you can get it!!

This one hit me wrong. Bottle. Dark but not black and thin brown foamy head. Smells bready. Very hard mouthfeel- interferes with flavor. Tastes dry and acidic. As I drank it, I picked up a weird almost herbal sweetness but it didn’t fit in there right. I almost never pour out a beer, but...

Near black pour with a foamy head. Aroma is sweet malt, roast and some herbs. Flavor is just what you would expect, sweet roasted malt. Good.

Pours black with nice lasting brown head. Aroma and Taste of sweet toasted dark malts some cacao, some light molasses and lightly hopped. Palate is medium body with smooth creamy mouth feel and moderate carbonation. Finish is sweet dark lightly roasted malt, cacao with some light hops. Overall a bit lacking on the aroma and taste for the style but an ok drinkable brew.

Purchased a 12 oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers, Hooskett, NH. Poured into a lager glass, looks deep brown with thin, small, tan head. Very faint chocolate aroma. This is what I expected, light roasted malt, light chocolate with a light nutty flavor. This isn’t going to get you super excited BUT, it would be a nice gateway brew for someone who is just starting to drink craft beer. Middle of the road. Not bad however, I wouldn’t call it “Black Silk”

Pour a black with a thin off white head. The aromas are chocolate, roasty. The mouthfeel is watery and roasty with a medium body. Cheers!
