A black lager which was launched after studies by American anthropologist Alan D Eames into Amazon beer. The beer is claimed to be based on recipes for ancient Amazon beer, though critics are sceptical as neither the ingredients nor the production method match Eames’ studies. Lagering and hops were unknown to the Amazon Indians.

Pours an opaque black/brown with a thick creamy choclate-milk colored head. Smells sweet and malty with aromas of fresh coffee, cacao liquer, and plumbs. Medium bodied and moderately sweet with good carbonation. The taste, again, was a pleasing and appetizing mixture of bitter dark chocolate, strong coffee, and dark fruits. Try with tiramisu or a chocolate desert.

Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, syntetic brown sugar. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. (290308)

Best S.A. beer I’ve tasted. Pours dark dark brown, almost black, with light tan head. Opaque, with flotsam in the glass. Smells of coffee, nuts, toast, and sweet fruit. Taste is subtle, but emulates the smells, with coffee roast and not too much bitterness. Very solid alternative to a Sam Adams black lager.

Nothing really special about this beer! My buddy let me get a rate in asheville...Thanks Steve! But like I said its alright, but nothing special! Pours a dark brown color, smells of caramel and roasted malts. Flavor is suprisingly sweet.

A beer from South America that doesn’t suck and it’s not a pale lager? Amazing. With all sincerity, this is a really nice beer, let alone a really nice schwarzbier. I’ve had two schwarzbier’s recently that were both really tasty, and that’s always a good thing. A sweet, caramel-like malty aroma, with a very light roasted note. Looking at it you’d think you’d get huge coffee notes but it wasn’t to be. Excellent color, with a fantastic three finger thick tan head. Flavors melded nicely with chocolate malts, black walnuts, and a bit of molasses. Nice beer, no matter where it’s from.

The beer pours a deep amber black with creamy white head that is thin but mostly lasting. The nose is a light nutty roasted maltyness. The front of the taste is a creamy carbonation with just a hint of roasted malts. The finish is smooth with a slight hint of hops but a definite taste of coffee and nuts. Overall I found the beer to be thin and watery but very drinkable

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2009 12 oz. Opaque black with a three-finger, lasting head. Aroma is not much, slight caramel corn maybe? . Flavor is mild: a sweet-side blend of caramel, husky grain, cocoa, coffee with soured cream, brown sugar, slight char and green herbs. Fairly smooth, medium body is slight dry.
