COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Fiiltered
A black lager which was launched after studies by American anthropologist Alan D Eames into Amazon beer. The beer is claimed to be based on recipes for ancient Amazon beer, though critics are sceptical as neither the ingredients nor the production method match Eames’ studies. Lagering and hops were unknown to the Amazon Indians.

Bottle at WOB. Pours a dark brown almost black (could be the low light) with a beige head. Wood, fruit, and malt aroma. Smooth taste of sugar, caramel, wood, spice and a little licorice. Surprisingly moderate body that adds to its drinkability. Easy to hate because it doesn’t fit with the style, but simple to enjoy once you get past the label.

Pours a nice deep, deep reddish-black with garnet around the sides. Nice tan head leaves lacing and a collar after it fades. Not much aroma, a little sweetness and coffee. Sweetness on the palate finishes quickly. Dry finish. Some slight bitterness. A little bit of cola as well.

355mL. Pours a clear ruby to black with a healthy tan head. Suddy retention and suddy lace remains. Nose is cheap red wine, cherries, currant. Very vinous. Taste is mealy apple. Wildly sweet, grenadine and apple heavy, with a mealy apple palate. As it warms, body gains soap and metals.

Poured from a bottle. Appearance is a dark brown, nearly black with a thin off-white head. Aroma is somewhat smoky malts and light biscuit notes. Taste is malty and slightly smoky. Medium bodied.

With a beer like this I’m not terribly concerned about aroma or appearance as I know what I’m about to see and smell. The taste, however is very enjoyable. Dark and malty, a roasty surprise from Brazil. It pours semi-thick and clean. The aroma isn’t memorable but for the taste was. Caramel, roasty toasty malt.

deep dark brown with faint off-white/tan head. Rich malty caramel nose hint of chocolate. medium sweetness, fuller palate, not much sharpness from malts or hops. Nice coating of the tongue, finishes nice. Chocolate/cocoa flavor could be mellowed as I think this could become a bit much after too long. But I like fuller malt flavor in my brews so this is nice. I would put it more in an English brown ale.

Bottle- Pours a dark brown with a nominal head and decent lacing. Very mild aroma. has hints of coffee and chocolate. Not much else. Taste is of roasted malt with a trace of coffee and chocolate. Has a bit of sweetness and a trace of bitterness. Has a clean finish. Surpisingly light body. Clean and smooth. Easy drinker. Not really a Schwarzbier but not bad at all.

Looks flat and moderately dark brown, kinda ugly for a Schwarzbier. Nutty, creamy, with an initial appeal to dark beer drinkers, but quickly fades into a buttery, English funk, doughy and bland, with a thin, flavorless finish. Decent mouthfeel. Drink this beer just to say you’ve had Brazillian beer and move on. (3/11/09)
