COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Fiiltered
A black lager which was launched after studies by American anthropologist Alan D Eames into Amazon beer. The beer is claimed to be based on recipes for ancient Amazon beer, though critics are sceptical as neither the ingredients nor the production method match Eames’ studies. Lagering and hops were unknown to the Amazon Indians.

A: The pour is dark brown in color with some amber highlights and an off-white head. S: Sort of a sour/acidic nose. Notes of green apple and lemon zest with a moderate to heavy roast character. Hints of dark fruits, and a touch of tartness to them. A little bit of coffee and dark chocolate in there too. T: Roasted malts dominate the flavor and there is a mild astringency as a result. Lightly acidic with a strong yeastiness to the flavor. A hint of dark chocolate and maybe some licorice and molasses. M: On the light side of medium with a moderate carbonation. O: A weird sort of beer. I liked it and thought it was good, but it wasn’t exactly like most schwarzbiers I’ve had.

Flaske 12 oz. Sort hælde med et lille råhvid hoved. Maltet og parfumeret duft, med mørk frugt. Smagen følger næsen. Forholdsvis sød i smag og eftersmag.

Black pour with a thick tan head. Slight, malty aroma. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and sweet. Finish lingers, but not a bad finish. Maybe not as heavy as one may think. More towards a milk stout. Easy to drink black beer.

Dark color. Aroma of chocolate, malt and hops. I tasted a lot of licorice and chocolate, and maybe some cherries in the after taste. A very sweet beer, I would consider this a desert beer.

This brew was extravagantly average. Very little aroma, but what was there was close to burnt toast, or burnt cereal grains. Quite faint. Taste: almost none. Very much like water, spiked with a mediocre black lager and carbonation. Not a winner.

I poured a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass... The beer is a very dark brown, almost black, there is a thick, light brown head almost like a nitro. It smells of roasty chocolate with a hint of wood and coffee. When you take a sip there is a grassy bitterness, lots of roasted flavors with a sour metallic background. It feels pretty light but very soft and smooth with lots of carbonation. This beer was better than I thought it would be and I’m glad I tried it.

Thanks to WhyBeNormal for sending this bottle my way in N00B BIF: Round 3. Served in a pilsner glass. Pour yields a nearly-black brew with a tan head consisting of very large bubbles. Quite rocky and foamy. Good retention and really nice lacing. The nose is quite light. There is a bit of roasted malt without too much more. Hints of coffee. The taste is a different story. While there is some roasted malt there, there also quite a bit of malt sweetness and some mild fruity characteristics, tending toward red and black fruits. Really a nice surprise. While the taste from this isn’t fantastic, it leads to a really nice mouthfeel, which is otherwise light and fairly crisp. Nice drinkability as well. All around, not something I would absolutely seek out again, but I certainly enjoyed it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-08-2011

Dark pour, almost brownish, with a hazy cloudy center. Aroma and flavor isn’t really all that great, not too much to speak of. Has a little bit of a roasty character with touches of malt here and there, but again it’s somewhat bland and uninteresting.
