Test vom 5.11.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,9,10,9,10,9 - 9,30

I wasn’t expecting much from it but I was pleasantly surprised. Very smooth and less bitter than the strong color suggests. Some have mentioned an aftertaste of medicine, though I didn’t notice it. All in all, a good dark beer. black, clear, brown foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, thin feel, soft carbonation,

DATE TASTED: October 26, 2014... GLASSWARE: Sam Adams lager glass... OCCASION: ending a weekend with something dark... APPEARANCE: mountainous brown foam-like head; as expected, dark black body; reasonable lacing... AROMA: roasted toffee front and center; chocolate and cocoa also show up--still inviting... PALATE: flat cola that smooths the tongue; surprisingly light-bodied for a "dark" beer....TASTE: toffee and candied sugars make this a mellow, easy-drinking lager with little fanfare or suggestion of its darkness; though sweet, not much of an impression... OVERALL: no real arguments with the style or its interpretation, but the price and "imported" label promise more than is delivered...

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy very dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, raisin, plum, fig, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, raisin, plum, fig, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Minimal roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, raisin, plum, fig light char, and roast/yeast earthiness. Nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit notes; with no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.6%. Overall this is a nice Schwarzbier style. All around good complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to drink. A fair bit fruity in the nose and taste, but not by an overwhelming amount. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft. Very dark brown and ruby. Sweet licorice, red wine, light chocolate, banana. Very thin mouthfeel with pretty high carb. Complex and interesting but a little too weird and unbalanced.

33cl bottle. Pours dark reddish brown, almost black with a small beige head. Aroma and taste are light roasted malts with some caramel. Watery texture, low carbonation.

10/27/2014. 12 oz bottle purchased at Full Throttle Bottles, poured into an ale glass. Pours with a small amount of tan head, consistent bubble size. Leaves a decent amount of lace on the sides. Dark and opaque. Aromas of molasses and banana. Quite sweet, really very little hops, if any, is apparent. Medium carbonation, thin body, a little dry, short finish. My first beer from Brazil - pretty decent tasting.

Bottle from Morrisons. Dark almost black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma has a bit of malt, the taste less so but with a spritzy lime taste.
