Bouteille. [notes 2006]

It is very strange to mix beer and spirits together. You can then easily store a beer on Cognac barrels and get something good out of it, but the direct mixing beer and Cognac together sounds like a thorough attempt to destroy both. The rich foam and flavor of dried fruit does that the result is not crazy anyway. The taste is as an excellent barley wine, clear notes of prune and raisin, warming from alcohol and so little of Cognac with hint of light caramel and a hint of cherry. Towards the end it carries the acidity to a semi-dry end. I think still that it’s a bit absurd shape to produce such a beer drink, but when the brewery (or rather blendery) does not provide information about the beer and the Cognac used, then you do not know whether the two drinks just tastes best mixed together or separately. But I must admit that it tastes good.

330 mL bottle at Sin & Redemption. Copper to brown pour with a finger of light tan head. Aroma was more fruity than I expected, raspberry peach, caramel malt as well. Taste was caramel, light spirits, hint of alcohol.

Pours a medium clear copper with a weak offwhite head that fades into a small rim and doesn’t leave much lacing. Nose is of caramel, brown sugar and vague spirits. A lot less intense than I remember it being. Taste is lightly sweet, carries brown sugar and caramel for the most part. Finish is pretty soft and lightly woody, again far from what I remember (last time I had it it wasn’t pleasant at all). Body is medium, carbonation medium-high. I see no date on the bottle but I’m pretty sure it is old. Or maybe my palate evolved? Anyway, pretty average.

No, ugh and eeew. Tastes alcohol and cheap cognac with carbonic acid. It was poured into the sink after a few sips.

January 29, 2014. 330mL bottle at beerbistro. Apricots on the nose. Lovely caramel colour. Started off pretty well, but by the end of the beer I didn’t really want to finish it due to the aftertaste. Poor choice on my part, but I was curious. :)

Bottle@ home: Pours cobber/amber with an off-white head. Malty aroma/taste with hints of apples. Sweet long lasting malty flavor.
