Stillage at the Fullerians Beer Festival, Watford on 2 March 2013. Poured a clear amber, with the smallest amount of rocky white head. Aroma of summer fruits, caramel and malt. Some grassy hop in the flavour, with berries and biscuit malt. Finish was raisins, light spice and cereal.

Cask handpull, Prince of Wales, on a bit of a miniature crawl of Hinckley, 11/01/14. Thick-collared red bronze. Perfumed peach, flowers, tangerine nose. Honey, mandarin and biscuit base with a generous waft of green stewed and soft tropical hop. Really good; approaching US IPA good actually. On handpull in Hinckley. Unbelievable.

Cask gravity at Firkin Ale House Folkestone. Clear amber colour lasting off white head. Hoppy lovepy malty. Had a couple of not good beers before this so anything half decent was going to be a delight. It’s good. Good hop.

Cask, gravity dispense at Beer Rebellion. It pour deep amber with a small white head. The nose is wood, leathery, varnish, touch of sweetness and dried fruit. The taste is wood, leather, resinous, varnish, touch of spice, light caramel and decent bitterness with a dry, woody finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty tasty and well-balanced.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2014 A bit of a curate’s egg this one. Has a nice citrus aroma and attractive amber tone. Initial flavour is nicely ’malty sweet’ but then it all goes wrong. Finish is just soooo bitter with that curiously sour taste you get when eating grapefruit, but this time in spades. I guess this is a drawback of this particular style and why it is not exactly my favourite.
