1.4 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle. Well chilled as suggested by brewery. Aroma, skunk. After sitting for a few minutes, skunk. Pale yellow orange colour with a fast dissipating white head. Lots of tiny bubbles. Sweet flavour with a little hop bite. Medium hop finish. If they do put maize in this, I can’t taste it. Would be better from a tin, and on a hot day.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pour from a 600 ml bottle. Crystal clear medium yellow brew with frothy white head. Aomra of skunk, toast, mineral water. Taste is light sweet malts at the start with a bit of bitter in the finish - just a dash of grass and some astringency. Palate is good - not watery or fizzy. For what it is and priced as it is this is OK, but nothing memorable.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Big bottles. Pale yellow-gold. Fizzy. Best drunk out of the bottle so you do not have to look at it or smell it much. Drank fresh from the big bottles, probably one of the better swills in Beijing and has a great price point--3 RMB (USD 50 cents) for a 650 ml bottle. So that’s pretty much 25 cents a beer. Could be one of the world’s cheapest. You know, I drank a lot of it and it’s not that bad when it’s fresh and cold, which it often is both from the small Beijing hutong vendors. Doesn’t have the types of off-flavors that make some Chinese swills unbearable. My go-to for "yi ping pijao, bing-de."

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle. Gold bodied with a fizzy white head. Skunky and grassy hops with cereal and sweet malt in the nose. Taste is sweet malt, corny notes, light cereal grains, and faint grassy hops. Body is light-medium and has a fizzy, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more sweet malt, corn syrup, cereal grains and grassy hops.

1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle - Pours a clear old gold with little white head. Aroma is skunked, corn, skunked, grain, and skunked. Taste is like biteing a metal spoon full of water. Palate is watery and disappears on the finish. Overall, this is not the worst drainpour I have had, but it is by no means a good beer.

Bottle claims to be #1 selling beer in China. It’s just a tasteless, watery, cheap lager. Not terribly offensive. but not good either.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Tastes like emptiness. Is that a buddhist concept? If so, the beer could be seriously anti-establishment in China. Unfortunately to me, it tastes like crap. Maybe I lack culture... Got in a white can in 7-11 in Taiwan

The main Yanjing you buy in the 600ml bottle for 3 kuai everywhere in Beijing is a pale, sour beer. It is light bodied, with a little bit of grainy taste. It drinks quickly and you can drink a fair bit of it relatively painlessly.
