1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
The main Yanjing you buy in the 600ml bottle for 3 kuai everywhere in Beijing is a pale, sour beer. It is light bodied, with a little bit of grainy taste. It drinks quickly and you can drink a fair bit of it relatively painlessly.

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle. Crystal-clear, pale yellow and flat. No head at all. There’s virtually no aroma, and the beer drinks with a musty, corny malt flavor. Not so good ... (#4772, 8/6/2012)

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Big bottles. Pale yellow-gold. Fizzy. Best drunk out of the bottle so you do not have to look at it or smell it much. Drank fresh from the big bottles, probably one of the better swills in Beijing and has a great price point--3 RMB (USD 50 cents) for a 650 ml bottle. So that’s pretty much 25 cents a beer. Could be one of the world’s cheapest. You know, I drank a lot of it and it’s not that bad when it’s fresh and cold, which it often is both from the small Beijing hutong vendors. Doesn’t have the types of off-flavors that make some Chinese swills unbearable. My go-to for "yi ping pijao, bing-de."

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
330ml bottle - $1.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a patently clear, pale gold body with a piddling, short-lived, white head.
Smell: Woefully washed out nose with a thin, uninspiring whiff of malted barley and grist mill dust.
Taste: A relatively weak taste of barley and dried rice bitlets. Mildly sweet, though it persists throughout, as there is not really much hop character to counteract it beyond a very, very vague reminiscence of grassiness. And that’s really about all there is to Yanjing Beer. The lager doesn’t really have a finish, it simply falls apart and drifts away like smoke.
Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: With any luck, the eventual takeover of America by China will go down about as easily as this cheap lager.
