COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Cape of Good Hope, which changes year to year, pays homage to the original style and adventurous spirit of the first British IPAs. This past year’s release, a west coast style double IPA, is brewed with 100% pilsner malt, imparting a subtle maltiness and beautiful golden color. Loaded with hops, there’s Columbus in the kettle and Centennial in the whirlpool. Then it’s dry hopped with El Dorado, Calypso, and Galaxy, resulting in a dry, crisp ale with unmistakable flavors and aromas of tropical fruits. Doesn’t match the hop listings I’ve seen elsewhere, right?

Cloudy reddish amber appearance with an average size beige head and good lacing. Floral hops hit first in the aroma with plenty of citrus in the background. A clean, pungent taste with a variety of hop characteristics and a solid malt backbone. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with a long lasting finish that hides the abv pretty decently. A well made example in a style with a lot of competition.

Bottle. Nose beautifully citric, heaviest grapefruit, juice and rind in balance, a little oil, and super inviting! Lightly hazy yellow-golden with a dense and creamy off-white head. Strong bitterness with medium hop sweetness, fullish body is also dense and creamy, all of that lovely grapefruit and lemon and adding on with some tropical edges: pineapple, passionfruit, mango. Light supportive caramel and a touch of fizzy crystal. Pine and smooth resin. Well-hidden etoh. Clean and awesome.

Bottle from Mari’s. Pours clear copper with a small white head that dissipates quickly to a slight film. There is plenty of carbonation in the glass. The aroma has a good citrus punch with enough astringency to let you know this is well hopped. The taste is very citrus forward but has a nice bitterness on the finish. This well exceeded expectations!

Malty aroma similar to 90 minute. Hops also come out. It pours a clear but deep reddish amber. Taste is balanced yet a tad more to the spicy hoppy side. Instead of the sweet roundness of malt, there is a slightly sour lemon presence which makes this interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Transfer from BA review on 8-23-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served as a yellow-orange colored brew with a two finger foamy white head. The head has a fair level of retention, fading over time to leave a good leave of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is of a sweet citrus smell with some notes of a yeasty breadiness, some lighter pine aromas, as well as a decent grapefruit hop smell. With these is a little bit of caramel overall giving it a rather nice balanced smell. Taste – The taste begins with a biscuit and sweeter citrus flavor that create a base for the brew. Upfront there is a bit of grapefruit that grows stronger and stronger as the flavor advances to the end. More toward the middle of the taste, some flavors of pine begin sneaking their way onto the scene along with the advent of some caramel sweetness. While never matching the grapefruit hop the pine grows a bit stronger in intensity toward the end, where it is joined by some flavor of a light earthy hop to leave a bitter but still moderately sweet flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather creamy and thick with a carbonation level that is on the average side. A little less carbonation may have accentuated the beer’s nice hop flavor profile a bit better, but with that said, the beers thicker body was spot on for the nice hoppy and bready flavors. Overall – Due to its nice blend of hops, malt, and sweeter flavors this is a rather nice and quite easy drinking Imperial.

Bottled September 2, 2014.
Glass: Duvel tulip.
Appearance: Clear golden body with a dense and craterous white head. A very nice looking IIPA.
Aroma: Light sweetness coming through of malt and big juicy hop aromas. Some perfume and grass notes along with a pungent mixture of orange, mango, pear and grapefruit. Lovely.
Taste: The malt base is firm with a mild to moderate sweetness accented by a touch of caramel. The hops come off juicy with big orange juice up front and into the mid with a slightly spicy hop presence by the finish. Slightly floral and easy to drink, the bitterness is kept in check.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A really solid imperial IPA and a good value when considering the price of imperial IPAs in today’s day and age. Definitely worth picking up.

Damn fine IPA. Grapefruit aroma billows out of the glass upon pouring. Pine, semi sweet malts, and hop spice as well.
