3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
THOUGHTS: Hardly a sweet stout. Still pretty much a dry stout. Very subtle differences between this and the original Love Stout. The classic beer is there and then the chocolate and vanilla compliment those flavors. There was something slightly artificial about it, though. Since they call it chocolate, I would have liked for the chocolate to be stronger than the vanilla, which it wasn’t.
TECHNICAL: Drank 3/30/2013. Bottle. Poured very dark brown that was basically black in the glass with red highlights and a large, tan head that mostly, but slowly, diminished leaving good lacing. The aroma had moderate roasted malt, milk chocolate and dark chocolate; vanilla, something artificial, tobacco, chocolate milk shake and something underlying that reminded me of cigar smoke. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderately bitter with an average duration. There was roasted malt, both milk and dark chocolate, vanilla, and something underlying like cigar smoke or plastic melting. The light to medium body was oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a sort of metallic and ever-so-slightly chalky finish.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served deep brown color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a fantastic level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heavy of a milk chocolate aroma mixed with a strong roasted malt smell. Along with these aromas are some notes of a vanilla sweetness as well as some aromas of toffeeanda bit of an earthy smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a more roasted malt flavor mixed with some lighter cocoa flavors upfront. As the flavor advances however, the roasted flavors begin fading ever so slightly with the chocolate sweetening up quite a bit and becoming much more intense. Tons of vanilla and some toffee join the flavor, sweetening the chocolate and producing a sweet chocolate bar flavor. With flavors of cream and a moderate amount of bitter earth also coming to the tongue at the end, one is left with a chocolate ice cream like flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both were quite nice for the style of the brew and really helped accentuate the sweet chocolate and roasted flavors of the brew.
Overall – A tasty vanilla laden chocolate brew. A rather nice drinker and certainly worth a try if you get a chance.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chocolate, vanilla, coffee and slight booze aromas. Dry body. Caramel, very chocolaty, alcohol finish. Smooth, but a bit roasty, very different than the draft that I had a the brewery.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aromas of dark chocolate, bitter, earthy cocoa, nutty, dirty, walnut-like, hint of alcohol. Black with a lasting off-white head. Quite dry, chocolatey, roasty, a little burnt, some astringency, some booze. Medium-full bodied, pretty refreshing, smooth but not as creamy as I’m used to in a sweet stout.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: black, with a frothy, tan foam head, minimal lacing. Aroma: caramel, chocolate, nuts, roasty, vanilla, woody, light espresso. Taste: heavy sweetness, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, damp earth. Finish: full body, slick feel, soft carbonation, long sweet chocolatey finish. Notes: Much better as it warms close to room temperature.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy beige head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was bitter and roasty with notes of vanilla, cream, cocoa and a bit of perfume. Long vanilla and cocoa finish. Medium body. Ok.
