Cicada, a dry hopped Belgian style IPA, is brewed with a classic Belgian yeast strain and local wildflower honey, making it a truly indigenous ale. Subtle bubble gum notes from the yeast balance a smooth, caramel maltiness. Both citrus and earthy flavors round out this full-bodied, amber-colored beer.

Bottle. Pours out a reddish hued copper color with a two-finger off white head. Aroma is of honey, some odd spices, pepper and earthy notes, herbal tea/grassy/flora hop bitterness, slightly odd....Taste is honeycombs cereal, citrus and lightly floral/herbal hops, caramel, light dry alcohol on the finish. Odd profile, but not bad.

Unique beer. Pours a rich copper color with a robust fresh head. Aroma of sweet malt and honey. Taste is malty and very fresh - pours, looks and tastes like a draft beer. Very enjoyable - bears some resemblance to the yards Thomas Jefferson Ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a dark ruddy amber with a sizeable off white head. The nose has nice Belgian yeast notes along with a slight fruitiness and light floral hop notes. The flavor is well balanced with a hint of honey sweetness, bread, Belgian yeast, earth and floral hops. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Complex enough to be good without turning into a mess. Solid brew.

Sample at a beer event. Bottle. Clear deep amber pour with a white foamy ring. Yeasty nose. Bitter earthy floral hops over a sweet light green carmel base. Unusual.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Sparrow, 10/13/13

Aroma: The aroma is sweet and yeasty, lots of honey, plenty of floral notes, and some lighter spice
Appearance: It pours a cloudy reddish colo, wiith a foam beige head and lots of sticky lace
Flavor: The taste is medium-plus sweet, with some floral hops, and just a little balancing bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, fairly sticky, with a slight tingle, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: I actually thought this combination worked pretty well. The heavy sweetness didn’t bother me. There’s enough hops to provide balance. The honey is prominent, but the floral, spice, and citrus notes play interesting roles here as well. Worth trying.

Draft at craft ale house. Pours hazy reddish brown with a medium sized white head. The aroma has big city sugar, light yeast. The taste has a light bitterness, some sweet caramel, and a bit if a dry, earthy finish.

22oz bomber from Crossroads. Poured a deep orange honey brown amber body with a larger foamy off white head. Notes of honey comb, Berlgian yeast, older hops, citrus with tangerine and yellow grapefruit combo, dry toast and grains. Body was solid, medium to fuller with average carbonation and a lingering aftertaste over a lingering mouthfeel. Flavor might be a bit better than the aroma actually. Notes of toast, marmalade, dry toast, hop cones, citrus, nut shells, grains and some dry citrus rinds. MEH, hoped for more on this one.

Definitely an underrated beer. The taste is dry and bitter yet crisp and refreshing. I?d get it again.

On tap at the Pourhouse. Aroma is melon, caramel and floral. Pours deep amber with a small head and little carbonation. Taste had notes of peaches, honeydew, floral and earth. Not as sweet tasting as anticipated but definitely a neat flavor. Probably won’t seek this out.
