Dark amber-copper. Light tan head. Fresh grapefruit & pine needles on the nose. Resiny feel. Nice lemony, piny, grapefruity flavour w/ good malt background.

Hoppy and spicy-sweet aroma. The flavour is a nice blend of chocolaty malt and bitter hops. Finishes dry and leaves your tongue with a decent tingle of hops.

One extra special ale, indeed. Poured a hazy cider color, creamy tan head. Aroma of heavy hops and malts, spicy in the hop aroma. Flavor is of caramel malts, medium hops, and fruit esters. A little acidic. Very nice finish. Dry and a biy of bitterness. Very good.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2003 Very nice first impression of this ESA?.Nice twist on the style(ESB).Pours out dARK YET TRANCEPARENT IN GOOD LIGHT.Pretty decent lacing throughout.Reminds of a hemp seed brew? I like this alot. Balance is here if you like bitter beers like Ipa's & what not.Great beer Yards!

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
More of an IPA than a Bitter, due to its fairly complex hoppy flavor. A little spice, to boot. OK.

on cask. Wonderful, thick and foamy oatmeal head gives you something to dive into. Aroma a bit muted. Pretty much hits the commercial description, nice balance with fruity and mildly spicy characters, and a firm malty sweetness throughout. Clean finish. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2009 A clear dark ale with a good crisp light colored head. Not an ESB, but a drinkable, interesting, complex local beer, with plenty of hops and malt. So far my favorite from Yards. // Astringent, dry nutty finish.

020711 case code (Why no bottling date?); December 20, 2002 tasting notes: The strangest ESB ever; pours very dark with a light-colored head. Initial banana, then chocolate, then a hint of vodka-like alcohol. Less of the funky, musty malt taste here than in other, earlier Yard's offerings, and much hoppier than those same offerings. Still, very strange, yet very tasty.
