COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first ever and most beloved brew, ESA helped establish a following for cask-conditioned beer in the United States back in the Ď90s. East Kent Golding hops give this English style ale a subtle spiciness, which compliments its strong malt backbone. Hints of chocolate and caramel round out this deep chestnut colored ale. Floral, earthy, smooth.

on cask. Wonderful, thick and foamy oatmeal head gives you something to dive into. Aroma a bit muted. Pretty much hits the commercial description, nice balance with fruity and mildly spicy characters, and a firm malty sweetness throughout. Clean finish. Very drinkable.

Nice Malt and Hops mix. Orange color with tight head. Good beer, nice hot summer session beer!

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2009 A clear dark ale with a good crisp light colored head. Not an ESB, but a drinkable, interesting, complex local beer, with plenty of hops and malt. So far my favorite from Yards. // Astringent, dry nutty finish.

Pours amber with a good size head, but with thin lacing. Good hops in the aroma and flavor.

020711 case code (Why no bottling date?); December 20, 2002 tasting notes: The strangest ESB ever; pours very dark with a light-colored head. Initial banana, then chocolate, then a hint of vodka-like alcohol. Less of the funky, musty malt taste here than in other, earlier Yard's offerings, and much hoppier than those same offerings. Still, very strange, yet very tasty.

Thanks to dberger624 for this fine ESB. This one has all of the good attributes any decent ESB should have. Pours a rich amber color with a somewhat foamy off-white head. Thin lacing. Sharp hops aroma. Nicely austere flavor that is both crisp and gratifying. Bitterness is not too harsh but it is definitely there. More complex that a lot of ESBs and I appreciated that.

Great ESB, very complex with a nice balance of bitter & fruity flavors, excellent head that remained throughout, with a nicely hopped finish

Very nice beer in the style of an English bitter. Have had hand-drawn cask conditioned batches that seem to be a bit hit-or-miss. Maybe the beer engines havenít been kept clean at some of the Philly bars where Iíve had sour-tasting Yardís. In a bottle, itís consistently a fine, fresh, beer with a nice balance of bitter and fruity flavors with a nice malty finish.
