COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Yards has recreated General Washington Tavern Porter - a dark beer brewed with molasses. General George Washington originally created this porter to satisfy the thirsts of his field officers. Washington's fondness for Colonial Philadelphia-style porter is reflected in this historic recipe.

Overall a very average beer. The body is a little to simplistic and the lacing is poor. Flavor is hoppy with a nice malty finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Opaque chestnut body with a tall tan head that lasts for a while.
Aroma: Sweet milk chocolate with cocoa, mildly earthy with a burnt marshmallow presence. Semi-sweet leaning.
Taste: Sweet honey undertones matched by sweet chocolate and balanced by burnt malts that overlie the sweetness. The finish adds brown sugar and comes off sweet with lingering a moment with burnt sugar.
Palate: Full bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: This is a great historic porter that is very flavorful and enjoyable. Well done Yards!

10/4/13 after work shifty. I enjoyed the smoky almost burnt taste. It took a few sips to get used to and after that was fairly enjoyable.

Very nutty, chocolatey aroma. Color is deep brown with a slight reddish. Flavor is very sweet, caramel, old, and a like smoke. Quite good.

Bottle into a ale glass. Pour is black with a tan head. Aroma is bitter sweet. Taste is over the top browned and sweet malt. Finish is a nice bitter sweet mix. This is a great porter.

Pours a very dark brown with a small beige head. Coffee and chocolate notes with a roasty aroma. Very good.

Not bad. Pours like Pepsi, black with an off white head. Not much aroma on this, just light maltiness. Taste is small amounts of coffee, chocolate, and sweet malt backbone. Decent but not what I expected as a porter.

Pours black into a Sam glass. Tan head recedes to skim surface leaving scant lacing. Sweet cocoa and coffee aromas. Robust with sweet molasses front to back. Lasting sweet cocoa finish.

A nice dark sugar, some molasses taste. Kinda creamy body, bit of a molasses aftertaste

Nice roasted aroma, pours a clear dark ruby red with a splash of light tan head. The flavor starts a bit tart, and finishes a bit sweet. There’s a lingering sweetness for a finish. Not a bad porter, I prefer them less sweet though.
