COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Yards has recreated General Washington Tavern Porter - a dark beer brewed with molasses. General George Washington originally created this porter to satisfy the thirsts of his field officers. Washington's fondness for Colonial Philadelphia-style porter is reflected in this historic recipe.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2012 Bottled.....The head of the beer doesn’t last. The color is dark dark red. Loads of coffee smooth with small hints of vanilla bean and earthy tones. The palate doesn’t last too long bitterness and sweetness hit you with the coffee. Not to bad overall.

Licorice and malt smell. Flavor is hops, malt, coffee, bread, molasses. Thin body for a porter but the flavor really lingers. Nice balance. Not too strong. Licorice and molasses are definitely present throughout.

12oz bottle, pours brown with a beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of dark malts and chocolate hops. Flavor basically the same, lacking a good bite to a porter. It is a good tasting beer, overall decent, worth trying

Bottle at Philly’s Tavern. Pours opaque black with a large, creamy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is roast, chocolate and coffee malt, earthy and woody hops, dates, figs, and prunes. Flavor is dark malt dominant, dark fruits, medium hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

A quaffable porter. Nothing particularly interesting. Probably much better than what 18th century beer drinkers consumed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle in old City. Decent full flavored ale. Spruce planks. Richer scotch peat flavors in the background. Worth having but feels slight in general.
