3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer poured a clear orange color with a nice white head. The taste is no where as intense as many American IPA interpretations but still a good beer nonetheless.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to dberger624 for sending me this. Blurry amber color with a thin off-white head. Very thin lacing. Mostly hops aroma with some malt. Flavor consists of hops, citrus and some malt. Actually there was more malt in the flavor than in any IPA in recent memory. It didn't hurt the flavor at all though, and actually made the finish more subdued than in most IPAs. The jury is out as to whether that makes it more complex or more boring. Maybe both. Either way this was decent.

No case code (OK; no more editorializing... but we need to know! October 5, 2002 tasting notes): Giant maltiness and faint hops. Hops are almost an afterthought. Could this be most true to the style; that is, who in the 1800's, in the stultifying heat of East India, cared about hoppiness -- all they cared about was malt and alcohol!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pale and very cloudy appereance. Fruity aroma with plenty of apples. Initial flavour has a fruity/floral sweetness - the finish is bitter and lightly sour. Pleasant enough "English" ale that also hides the alcohol well. However, not a very good IPA - simply not hoppy and bitter enough.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Very, very nice IPA. Brewed in the english style, not over the top, subtle and refined. Good hopping, with a pronounced Cascade flavor, balanced expertly on a slab of malty goodness. Light citric fruitiness and a bit of apple/pear flavors. All around a good beer. I canít find a flaw.

This beer poured into the glass a apricot/burnt orange color. The head is a white/vanilla colored that seemed to start foamy and end as a skim. The lace surprised me and lasted quiet long. The aroma was fruit hops, and some yeast and bread malt. The taste started off slightly sweet then the yeast flavor came into the front. Then fruit dominated the rest with hops then ended a little dry and earthy. Some alcohol was present but very little. Not the best for this style, but I would give it another try at another time.

This is a lot better on draft than in a bottle

I had not had this in a while and I had a bottle tonight. Much more hops and much more flavor than I remember. I thought of this as a pretty non-descript IPA but this one really was not bad.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 3, 2005 Original rating 2.5 @ 11.16.2002. I wanted to re-rate this IPA because I believe Yards has improved their recipes over the past year. Citrus hop nose, murky body with unexpected floaties in the beer. Yards IPA is enjoyable but more of a one dimensional wall of hops than anything.
