| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2006 This is a type of beer that would make any lover of beer happy. It is an American Pale Ale by style, and is an outstanding example in my opinion. Yard’s tweaked the recipe formulation of this beer in 2004, and that change has been one for the better. This beer just pops with lots of fresh vibrant hop character on a crisp pale malt base. It is a very, very drinkable beer, a pint after pinter that you could lose an whole afternoon on.
Philadelphia Pale Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, golden color with a thick and rocky white head, and a lively carbonation from bottle conditioning. The nose on this beer is very fresh and inviting as pungent and zesty lemony/citric hop aromas flood the nose. The palate on this beer is crisp and bright on the tongue with good pale malt flavors, and an a nice underpinning of tangy citrus hop flavor. Philadelphia Pale Ale finishes with more crisp malt up front, then ends with a tangy/lemony hop bite that lingers on the tongue.
This is just a wonderful, fresh, vibrant, brilliant tasting beer that is so flavorful, yet so drinkable. It is a perfect session beer to enjoy with friends, and is a very food friendly beer as well. Look for this one on draught at local good beer bars, or in bottles where Yard’s beers are sold. This beer would work very well with grilled fish dishes, and would go well with lighter dishes and salads. hopnpop (68), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2006 Poured well: Nice creamy head. Not particularly clear though. Is this stuff unfiltered? Nose of citrus hops and metallic rust. Tasted lemon peel, apricot and not much else. Nothing real offensive here, but nothing remarkable either. Birdiebeagle (783), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2005 12 oz bottle Pours a hazy dark yellow with a white head. Lacing is good and lasting. Smells of grains, spurce, pines with a touch of orange. Has a dry texture with a lively carbonation. Has a bitter taste and a good aftertaste. Slightly metalic. A very enjoyable beer. jrob21 (1258), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2005 Poured cloudy yellow with a thin white head. Citrus aroma with some caramel as well. Taste was pretty nice with citrus hops. I would score this higher then it is rated. jzzbassman (845), New Albany, Mississippi, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Very interesting beer. Apricot and grapefruit flavor. Citrus nose. Tastes more like a hefeweizen than an american pale. It’s like they tried to use hops to get the same characters that you get with the yeast and wheat in a hefe. Of course, with that hop character there’s a good bit of bitterness characteristic of an american pale ale. Tons and tons of head on this one. Slight yeasty/doughy flavor. Small solid particles in the bottom of the glass. Is this spiced with corriander? Nothing like it.
