Misses the mark. Some overpowering fermenting fruit flavor, apricot or other, spoils the experience. Unbalanced on the malty side and weak. Try again.

Acidic nose. Light red color. Little lazer of a head, leaving laces on the glass. Weak bitter citrus taste.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Pours dark gold, hazy with a weird mix of extremely energetic large and small bubbles; 1/2-inch white head buzzes angrily and disappears about halfway through. Aroma of yeasty bread dough, maybe a hint of orange peel. Tastes of flour and flowery, copper-ish hops, with extreme aluminim can/metallic finish, perhaps some maize?? Palate is watery, lightly fizzy, and tinny. Imagine white bread soaked in carbonated water. Sorry, Yards, but truly horrible.

Bottled ant the brewery. This was pretty boring. Had a slight bitter flavor but that's the only thing it had going for it. Tasted like a weak English Pale

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very light yellowish brown in color. The taste was slighty malty with minimal hops and almost a cinammon quality. Overall it is very light with some sweetness followed by a dry finish. I checked with the server twice to confirm it was the pale ale. Perhaps it's the recipe, but not what I'm accusotmed to with pale ales.

Difficult to pour. This batch is really wild-almost like a half that fell off the truck. I did not expect this from a bottle. Tasted ok, but can't really nail down. Bread-like with a wierd aftertaste.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Light brown-yellow in color. Small head of medium sized bubbles which lingers around for a while. Aroma is slightly fruity with light malts. Taste is watery and bitter, and not bitter like a good English Bitter, but more of a cheap beer bitter.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2004 Bottled version: Pale golden with broken, thin head. Some slight lacing. Yeasty smell. Initial taste is sharply bitter, mellowing very quickly to a yeasty aftertaste. I did not like the malt character in this beer. It tasted like unleavened dough.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2006 re-rated: Not sure how long ago I did the below review, but Yards seems to have consistency issues. One time youíll have a Yards and itíll be excellent, other times itíll be horrible. This time the Philly Pale Ale was much better. Still very nutty / bready malt flavor, and the hops are a bit acidic - but thereís no off flavors and it stands up well as a decent americanized british pale ale.
original review - Very average pale ale. Too much nut and bread flavors - not enough hops. It seems like specialty malts were used in this to give it a very funky malt profile. Could not finish the pint that I started.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle: The beer poured a dark yellow color. The head was minimal. Zero lacing. Minimal aroma. What was there was a faint maltiness and citrus hops. The taste was OK, if a bit bland. Some bitterness, with even less malts. Boring!
