COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not to be boastful, but we honestly believe all other ales pale in comparison to ours. Dry hopped with an abundance of distinctive Simcoe hops, this straw colored pale ale is more drinkable than bitter, more aromatic than aggressive. Philly Pale, as it’s better known, is crisp, hoppy, and bursting with citrus. Philadelphia Pale Ale was named one of the best Pale Ales in the country by the New York Times.

No case code (Philadelphia Pale Ale was part of the "Yards Mixed Case Sampler: Philadelphia Pale Ale, Saison, ESA, IPA); August 24, 2002 tasting notes: Whew. What went wrong? All malt in the flavor profile; yet still a watery consistency. Big disappointment for a best bitter.

Weak, average beer aroma - nothing notable except a off cider-vinegar aroma. Hazy light apple cider appearance with the head diminishing to nothing after pour. Low, weak carb and medium dead watery body. Carbonic acid burn. Some citrus hops flavor and muted malts. Tinge of cider vinegar. Light bitter end/after. Just not that appealing. Maybe it's better on tap, but the bottled version is awful.

This beer poured into the glass a orange-amber color that had some cloud to it. The head was a white in color that was not present for very long. No lace seemed to be present. The aroma was fruity and hops with a tad of malt were present. The taste was sweet with fruit/citrus and hops. A malt seemed to be present but not overpowering plus it added to the sweetness. A well balanced beer with flavors and smells. Would like to get a few to take home next time.

Ditto on HighGravity. Hazy, light body, no mouth feel. Strange metalic drying aftertaste, but very little character or interest.

Aroma of apricot. Cloudy body with generous head. Very interesting flavor: complex oak, apricot, sherry and butterscoth notes lurk around the edges, but sadly surround a rather watery center. Almost very good.

Had this on tap at the Philly airport, served from a plastic cup. Not the ideal circumstance, but I had other stuff there that held up, so I think its fair to rate this. Bad. Just bitterness. Nothing but bitterness. Not really hoppy, exactly; no fruit, no herbal character. Just plain astringent, gagging bitterness. No body to speak of; avoid.

GABF 2002: Dark blonde colour. Grainy aroma and flavour. Slightly citrusy. Little, if any hop flavour. Booooo
