COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/22/13, Palindromic Rating #2992

Aroma: The nose has Belgiany-type yeast, pepper/spice, some citrus rind, and light funk
Appearance: Pours a hazed bright orange color with a small white head and light/drippy lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet and plenty spicy, with a light funk, and mild bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a lively carbonation, and a dry, spicy finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid beer. It has a pretty nice nose/flavor, a solid feel, and a nice drinkability. It isn’t an exceptional beer, but it is plenty tasty.

Tap. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold body with a rather large frothy white head that had excellent retention, falling to a creamy mass. The nose is fairly light, and not especially Saison like. Smells rather hard with a fairly heavy pale maltiness. There’s minimal yeast influence and no real rustic farmhouse character. A little bit of light spicing, but it doesn’t seem like its from the yeast. The flavor is like the aroma, I wouldn’t really guess this was a Saison, more of a generic Belgian Ale. Light spice up front followed by a slightly sweet and heavy pale malt towards the back end. A little lingering spice and maybe a touch of yeast character. Medium bodied, a little heavy and thick with soft fizzy carbonation. Not a bad beer on its own, but not anything like what I want from a Saison.

Great summer ale. Blazing heat is this beer’s best friend. Has a nice wheat/straw nose and lots of great sour grass flavors. love this beer.

keanex (1503) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - APR 17, 2013
Bottled April 1, 2013.
Appearance: The body has a slight haze to the amber hue, the head is thin and white with poor retention. The head settles into a bubbly coating.
Aroma: The aroma is earthy, spicy, and a bit odd. It has this odd aroma I can’t place my finger on.
Taste: Slightly malty, light spices, and a bit odd. The aroma I smell I pick up in the flavor. It’s not off-putting, but it’s not appealing.
Palate: Medium bodied, medium carbonation.
Overall: This just isn’t doing it for me. This has an odd aroma and flavor that I can’t put my finger on. I’ll pass next year.
