Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yardsí Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. Itís delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

Tap. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold body with a rather large frothy white head that had excellent retention, falling to a creamy mass. The nose is fairly light, and not especially Saison like. Smells rather hard with a fairly heavy pale maltiness. Thereís minimal yeast influence and no real rustic farmhouse character. A little bit of light spicing, but it doesnít seem like its from the yeast. The flavor is like the aroma, I wouldnít really guess this was a Saison, more of a generic Belgian Ale. Light spice up front followed by a slightly sweet and heavy pale malt towards the back end. A little lingering spice and maybe a touch of yeast character. Medium bodied, a little heavy and thick with soft fizzy carbonation. Not a bad beer on its own, but not anything like what I want from a Saison.

Bottled April 1, 2013.
Appearance: The body has a slight haze to the amber hue, the head is thin and white with poor retention. The head settles into a bubbly coating.
Aroma: The aroma is earthy, spicy, and a bit odd. It has this odd aroma I canít place my finger on.
Taste: Slightly malty, light spices, and a bit odd. The aroma I smell I pick up in the flavor. Itís not off-putting, but itís not appealing.
Palate: Medium bodied, medium carbonation.
Overall: This just isnít doing it for me. This has an odd aroma and flavor that I canít put my finger on. Iíll pass next year.

Draft at Parc in Philly. Pours clearish yellow gold with thick white head. Smell is hoppy and yeasty and citrus and some spice. Taste is slightly bitter, spicey and citrus zest with some candy sugar. Refreshing and drinkable and nice with brunch on this occasion.

Very good summer beer, aroma is very nice, spicy and sweet. Very good flavors and they are well expressed cold. Nice aftertaste that keeps you wanting more, good characteristic of a summer beer. 6.5% makes its mark if you drink them like a pale lager though. Well made, and worth getting a case to take tailgating.

Light slightly hazy straw. This was a pleasant surprise. Dry and spicy gingery flavor with a small bitter finish. A good drinking beer.

Tulip glass- an excellent farmhouse ale great aroma with hints of honey and a very sweet but not overwhelming taste. The aftertaste is solid as well, and overall is a different taste than the normal saison ale.
