COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons were historically brewed to keep the farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. Crafted using Belgian pilsen malt and candi sugar, this golden Belgian style ale is a refreshing change from your usual beer lineup.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with an off white head. Aroma is of spice and straw. Taste is distinctly Belgian with overtones of fruit and gingerbread.

In short: A not-so-rustic but very satisfying blonde American Saison
How: Tap at BCTC 2010.
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a large off-white head with medium retention
In long: Nose is moderately rustic with refreshing notes of fruit salad. Taste is more nourishing than expected. Pleasant relatively thick body with banana cake, pineapple upside down cake, flower petals, a bit of bubblegum, light notes of white pepper. Grassy hops bring a mild dryness. I don’t think I ever had this new version (2009+) in bottle but on tap this was very nice. Underrated like most session Saisons. I which I could buy this locally, I would make it a regular session beer. But I can’t. Yards are unheard of in Canada. We use the metric system up here.

Capa (1908) - Manama, BAHRAIN - SEP 15, 2010
Glowing blonde with a firm, lasting white head. Yeast, light banana, some clove, and other spices make up the aroma. Highly carbonated body adds a hefty bite on the tongue. Flavor is much like the aroma with a bit of lemon zest, as well. A solid saison that is quite refreshing. Wouldn’t hesitate to pick one up when in need of a saison.

Would get again fo sho. Moderate carbonation, some pepper and spicy fruity esters, medium body, not as dry as most, very drinkable. complex, with slight hint of citrus.

Pours an orange amber color with big thick white foam head. Has an aroma of funk and lemon zest with some florals on the nose. Has a nice foamy mouth feel. Has that bitter spicy saison taste. The belgian yeast comes through as well (banana notes) but works with the other characteristics. Very nice saison and underrated.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. The aroma has some peachy sweetness with yeasty spicy notes, citrus, and some flowery notes. The flavor has an light sweetness, and some yeasty spiciness, with notes of apricot and lighter floral notes. Pretty good.

Yards Saison was part of up a mixed case @ the brewery. Light, sweet yeast aroma, but each bottle I poured was too foamy. Once the foam subsided musty, and sour fruit flavors. I’ll admit Sason is not my favorite style, and Yards Saison was not my cup of tea.

auerbrau (2989) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - JUL 14, 2010
On tap at Old Bay - New Brunswick, NJ. Pours a darker, cloudy golden, with a fluffy, soapy off-white head. Aroma is a light soap and herbs and minerals aroma, too cold and in a mug. Flavors are decent, but a little sloppy. There’s a loose, flabby edge with some bubblegum, soap and too much sweetness. The coldness of this pour restrains a lot of things. Not particularly spicy, dry, fresh or light. Not dirty, but just a little frayed on the edges. Not my favorite Saison.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Rated 4/16/10. Pours a hazy orange-peach color with a white frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of coriander, bubblegum, yeast, nutty notes and a very faint hoppiness. The taste is very spicy withy notes of bubblegum and an herbal hop finish. Medium bodied. Decent but just a tad bit odd.

Pours clear gold with minimal white head. Aroma is citrus and heavy florals. Taste is sweet with the florals coming through strongly. Honey like sweetness.
