Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yardsí Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. Itís delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

Draft and brewery fresh. I enjoyed this quite a bit. Yards beers to me always seem to "pop", this is a lively, mouth filling take on a saison. A bit bready, not too spicy but with the character spicing you would expect.

a solid sixpack. pours kind of an ugly color like dehydrated urine (girlfriendís words, not mine) but with a decently full white head that sticks around nicely. smellís a bit funky and not in a great way, like a old damp towel. tastes surprisingly bright and lively though, with some citrus notes on top of a nice breadiness. iíd say this beer has a bad start with appearance and aroma but still manages to drink just fine. iíd buy it again.

Tap at Iron Abbey. Light yellow pour with a large white head. Banana, clove, and yeast in this. Light crispness.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($6): Pours an orange colour with a white head. Aroma is barely saisonesque; instead, it is mostly like a sweet and fruity Belgian Ale. Taste is much the same. This was good. It was refreshing and very drinkable, but ultimately, it was not particularly complex or novel.

Light and fruity, a bit tart, yeasty, and bread-like. Hints of spice, citrus zest, grass. Smooth and full bodied.

Bottle shared by nuplastikk...thanks Greg! - Pours lightly hazy yellow with a thin bubbly white head. Nose is big and tropically fruity, with syrup of canned mixed fruit, light clove spiciness, and a bit of banana. Taste is similar, with a bit of syrupy sweetness, a light herbal hoppiness, pear, and some pale maltiness. Pretty syrupy slick body with enough carbonation to smooth it all out. Nice stuff!

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a light orange glow and a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, sugars and tons of coriander seed with a bit of curacao. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent malt at first with some metal, malt, wheat, yeast and a bunch of curacao and lemons. Aftertaste is quite bitter from the malt, metal, yeast and a touch of hops, with some other grassy notes and a little sweetness at the tail end. Overall, a strong beer that doesnít show off to be such a bad beer - but one with a lot of flavour that doesnít necessarily translate to great flavours, especially for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-May-2012 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Upstate New York on 26-May-2012.

12oz bottle. Pours a golden yellow with a medium white lasting head. Aroma and Taste of citrus, lemons, some grass and hay notes, with some biscuit malt and light bitter hops. A light crisp body with good carbonation. Finish is light crisp, citrus and lemon flavors with some light bitter hops and a lingering nutty aftertaste. Overall a good crisp and refreshing brew.

Pours a golden orange color with a thin head. Aroma of Belgian yeast and citrus. Taste follows the nose but us far too sweet for a saison. Not a bad beer but I was not expecting the sweetness. This takes away from the refreshing nature of a saison making this beer a bit of a disappointment.

Pours a hazy, pale gold with a soft finger of white head. Pretty good lacing and plentiful beading. The nose is pretty decent... orange peels, clove, banana, I gotta say it reminds me of a Blue Moon. Not off-putting, but not fantastic either. The flavors here are rather muddled. Wheat, clove, more orange peel, sort of a medicinally tart aftertaste. Iíd probably pass on this one in the future. Glad I got to try it though!
