COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yardsí Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. Itís delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours a hazy yellow & sparse white head. Has the characteristic malty / bread dough flavor with a Belgian. Pretty nicely done. Good mouth feel, and not watery.

It pours golden with a white head. There is some lacing and it is very clear. There are aromas of pepper, fruity esters, pepper, moderate spice, and hints of oranges. There are flavors from fruity esters, bananas, moderate pepper, spices, and hints of orange. It has a moderate fell and a moderately bitter aftertaste. It has a dry finish. Overall it is a complex blend of flavors from fruit and spices with a dry finish.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain, popcorn), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (basement), with notes of pepper, grains of paradise, gum, clove. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Reasonably decent, other than the popcorny malt character. The nose also suggests added spices, but itís plausible that itís "pure". A little rough, but it has potential and is certainly better than the buttery and bubble-gummy version I had in 2005. It kinda seems like theyíre attempting a Dupont clone now, but this yeast canít quite pull it off so it leans a bit too much towards a generic Belgian golden than a saison.

On tap at Brunzies (4/17/15). Lemon peel and coriander. Mild yeast and some esters with light honey. Medium amber-gold clear with thin white head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Taste is mix of Belgian ale and a Wit. Jasmine, yeasty esters, and moderate bitterness toward the finish. Nice saison but a little sweet.

The Yards Saison is pretty to look at and smells just as nice, but itís lacking something in taste. It doesnít taste badóitís quite enjoyable and itís light in taste, but it also feels a little flat, like it canít quite distinguish itself from other saisons. Itís still a solid beer from a very good company, and Iíd drink it again. I just donít love it.

Pours mildly cloudy yellow gold with small white head that leaves minor lacing. The nose is bread, lemongrass, cereal, candied sugar. Palate adds mild citrus and banana, plus spices. I noticed coriander, clove and cumin. This is a mild farmhouse without much funk but some hop bitterness, reasonable level of alcohol with very slight buzz on the finish. Decent.
