COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

Light slightly hazy straw. This was a pleasant surprise. Dry and spicy gingery flavor with a small bitter finish. A good drinking beer.

Bottle. An almost clear one, pale golden in color and with a small, dense, white head. The aroma is quite banana-ish, with some spiced, peppery hints and a touch of citrus zest. It’s dry and medium bodied, with an appropriate carbonation level. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with some resins and pine cones. Peppery yeast, banana and a faint touch of lemon too. Lasting bitter, piney and peppery finish with some banana. Too much hefeweizen-ish on the nose especially, but it’s a quenching and quite nice beer anyway. 150622

Not a bad standard saison. Light and yet fruity with decent spice. Easy to drink but not a full flavor. Don’t go in thinking Belgium. Bottle

Pours a yellowish fizz. Delicate hint of summer fruit on the nose with a very slight autumnal spice to it. Very drinkable and you wouldn’t think it was 6.5%

Pours yellow-orange with a one finger white head with just a little lacing. Aroma is of fruity ethers, Belgian yeast, bready malts, and some citrus. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium-light body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, semi dry, medium finish. Overall, a easy drinking, above average saison.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is full of classic Belgian esters with a lot of over ripe stone fruit, pear red apple and lighter bubblegum. Some light citrus including lime. Medium light pepper phenolics. Pours a cloudy, yellow gold with a large, pillow white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to a small head that lingers. Medium light lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with a light character and grain note. Light citrus notes including lime. Medium light fruit esters with light pepper phenolics. Moderate bitterness and a medium light mineral note to the water. A hint of honey. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, another alright American made classic Belgian saison. Easy drinking but lacking anything special and the fruit esters might be a bit over powering.

Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a hazed orange-yellow color with a two finger thick and billowy white head. The head fades slowly leaving a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of wheaty and yeasty aroma with a lots of banana and spice of coriander and clove. Along with these smells are some other light fruit aromas of an orange and a lemongrass aroma as well. Taste – The taste begins with a slightly lightly sweetened yeasty and wheaty taste with the sweetness being a mix of candied sugar and some fruit of an orange flavor. As the taste advances the candied sugar and orange fade, but some flavors of banana come to the tongue and bring with them some clove and pepper. A little bit of a grassy and lemon flavor come to the tongue toward the end of the taste and with the dwindling of the sweeter flavors overall, leaves a rather well balanced, only lightly funked and rather more crisp saison flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is medium in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation that was average to slightly low. A little higher carbonation would have been slightly more fitting for the style, but even so the feel was alright and keep it a rather easy drinking brew. Overall – A somewhat drier and less funky saison that had a very easy drinking feel. Not a bad brew and one to at least give a try too.

DATE REVIEWED: July 24, 2014... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip... OCCASION: just watched Earth to Echo--fun, but not E.T. ...APPEARANCE: hazy, glowing golden orange body; an armada of bubbles cascades upward into a white, frothy, three-finger head that leaves thick cumulous clouds... AROMA: candied sugar, hay and lemon zest--missing the signature barnyard yeasts, though--definite allspice, cumin and coriander... PALATE: lively, active in the teeth; medium-bodied, with a long drawn-out, welcome aftertaste; sessionable but somewhat substantial... TASTE: apple, raisin, grape, zesty lemon, anise and cumin combine to create an abbey-like profile without the alcohol...not as soft and unfiltered as expected... OVERALL: one of the first (THE first?!) saison I had, and this bottle rewards well within my price range ($8.99 for a six); quite flavorful for the thirst-quenching expectations; Yards dos not often disappoint, and they do not here...
