Heathen (455), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2008 THOUGHTS: Really nice. Especially when it warmed up. I don’t know why I tasted and smelled vanilla, where no one else seemed to, but I did and that made it even better.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light orange or dark yellow with tiny body particles of average thickness and a very small, fizzy, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was light citrus hops, light doughy yeast and vanilla. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily acidic and very sour with an average duration. there was citrus, slight vanilla and a little funk then a ton of sour lime. the light to medium body was watery then dry with tingly carbonation and a moderate to heavy astringent finish. tupalev (2267), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 20, 2008 Bottle at the no Greg tasting, courtesy of, of course, Greg, shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, Jerc, and Mabel, Mild malt aroma - not much else.Medium to light yellow, small white head. Really bland taste - mild malt, somewhat sweet. What a bland bland beer - no saison type characteristics at all here. Not good. blankboy (2487), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a hazy pale yellow with an average size diminishing white head. Aroma of toast. Yup, simply toast. Flavour’s also of toast along with vegetal notes and caramel malt. Light to average bodied. i didn’t like this at all. jerc (3050), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 12, 2008 2008-04-10. Pale yellow body with a tiny white head. Aroma of perfectly toasted Wonder Bread, develops into hints of cooked pizza dough as it warms. Muted mild flavour, wonky dilute grains, light bitterness. Average to thin palate. A pretty boring take on a saison, I did not care for this one. Bottle courtesy of GregClow HogTownHarry (3141), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 10, 2008 Bottle (12oz). No ClowGr’s tasting, shared with blankboy, jerc, mabel and tupalev. Very pale yellow pour, no head. Burnt toast and stale spice, light pungent floral bitterness. Taste - hint of lemon, plenty of dry spice and yeast, flowers and clover sweetness. Extremely light body, no carbonation, a decent bit of dry spiciness in the quick finish. Not bad.
