3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ryanscourt (303) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Like a christmas beer, spices and molasses. Fairly enjoyable and spices are the backbone of this beer but not overwhelming. Not something I would get a case of but around the Thanksgiving table I could enjoy one.

Lichtbruin. Aroma van stoofvlees, misschien de kruidnagel en kaneel? Verder niet bijzonder.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boliv (1146) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2013
Bottle. Pours dark garnet with a 2-finger frothy beige head. Aromas of sweet spruce and molasses, brown sugar, and nutmeg. The flavor is brown sugar, slightly bitter spruce, grass, and twigs. Pine sap in the finish. Nice. [1144]
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Braudog (5060) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Bottle. Reddish-brown with a thin but pillowy head. The aroma is laden with a bit of spice, almost java-like. This drinks with a definite bit of juniper spice to it, but there’s a metallic undertow that doesn’t quite carry. (#4944, 2/18/2013)
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NikkTwist (965) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Draft at Sugars. Poured a hazy copper with a slight head that just about disappeared entirely. Nutty spicy malt flavors. Chestnuts. Sassafras. Walnuts. Molasses. Cinnamon. Cloves. Juicy and smooth, though feels a bit more like a tea than a beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dacrza (343) - Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA - JAN 21, 2013
Date: 13 January 2013...
Glassware: Hoegaarden tumbler...
Occasion: Golden Globes--what, no Hobbit? Guess I will be my wife’s Les Mis date tonight...
Appearance: iced tea-colored body with a pencil-thin, hazy off-white head; sparse effervescence; not really a looker...
Aroma: spruce, yes, but cinnamon and nutmeg as well?...
Taste: the molasses is sweet but palatable; the spruce is not so pronounced at the tongue--elusive, flat malts...
Palate: smooth, unexpectedly soft and medium-bodied, with a warm ending despite the 5.0 abv...
Overall: Does Ben Franklin ever get anything wrong? This is curiously mellow and drinkable, but the profile is not quite the pine cone pinata I expected... warmed me on this winter’s night for sure!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 odinstyr (463) - Hamilton, New Jersey, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Pours a copper-brown with a small off-white head. Smells of hay, spruce, nuts. Taste is sweet and mildly bitter - toasted grains, molasses. The spruce tips are interesting, not as different from a piney hops as I would have hoped, rather mellow.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 callmemickey (1471) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 19, 2012
Dark amber-brown body, medium pale tan head, soapy lacing. Spuce needles, light caramel, mellow resinous bitterness. Flavor matches the nose with near equal balance of malt and sprice. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, clean finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 watson1977 (2360) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 16, 2012
Pours an opaque brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is malty...caramel and burnt toffee...mild spruce but an afterthought. Flavor is a bit sprucey with some bready/doughy maltiness...burnt toffee and mild roast. Mouthfeel is light and the finish is bready/sprucey. Not bad but boring.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 HighlanderOne (886) - Bergen County, New Jersey, USA - DEC 2, 2012
Poured from bottle. Aroma of malt and slight pine-sol. Good lookin mahogany with lasting tan head. I taste the malt and molasses, but the spruce just reminds me too much of pine-sol. Well made, but not my thing.
