2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Served in a pint glass.
Pours a moderate brown-amber color with an off-white head and a tiny amount of lacing. The nose is dominated by the spruce and there isnít much else there. Maybe a tiny bit of light brown sugar. A bit of bready malt.
The nose brings some more pine and spruce as well as a bit of light earthy character. Some other mild herbs there as well. A bit of very light sweetness and bread crust, but this is a bit plain and relies too heavily on spruce alone. Feel is fairly light with good carbonation. Interesting, but not all that great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle as a trade extra. Pours cloudy chestnut brown with a one-finger light beige head that fades to a thin cover over the beer. Spicy and sprucey aroma with a touch of sweet malt and molasses. The flavor is loads of spruce, molasses, herb tea, and...well...I appreciate what they were going for with this one and respect that itís based on a traditional recipe, but it sort of tastes like dirt. Medium-bodied with average carbonation and some slight spicy tingling. Very, very interesting, but I canít say that I enjoyed the experience all that much.

Murky brown, thin ring of foam. Smells like spruce and molasses, as expected. Tastes like molasses and rum, with some piney, sprucey note thrown in. Very heavy palate.Ok, but not really my thing, I guess. Thanks to lithy for this one!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Unfiltered brown-red. Solid off-white/beige head. Intense spruce aroma, kind of harsh. The taste, however, really works. Medium bodied, quite drinkable. Intense gingery spruce taste. Quite odd and unique, manages to make the bold flavors quite palatable. Not quite world class, as it is a little one dimensional.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle acquired via trade. Light orange, moderate head. If only Googs hadnít been such a pussy and gone to bed early he would know that this featured a much more prominent spruce note as it warmed, and became a mediocre instead of cider tasting beer. *Googs came back out to the living room but I didnít let him taste it because heís still a pussy.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Pours a deep reddish-brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is nothing but spruce. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is a very palatable balance of malt and spruce. Reminiscent of some of the spruce-ier OSAís from Anchor. At 5%, this would be a good beer to have on hand during the holiday season.

Draft at the brewery. Pours medium brown with very little head. Pine and earth predominate in the nose. Sweet bready malt, pine, and some cider notes along with nutmeg and allspice. Very dry finish. Unique.
