This powerful and complex golden ale pays homage to Founding Father and fellow brewer, Thomas Jefferson. Yards Brewmaster, Tom Kehoe, worked closely with Philadelphia’s historic City Tavern to recreate this recipe, employing honey, rye, and wheat, just like the beer Jefferson made at Monticello.

Gold pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and floral hops. Sweet caramel malt with light fruity esters. A touch of floral hops on the end. Medium body with food carbonation. A very light bitter finish too. I wish there was more hops here

Poured from bottle. Sweet malt aroma. Clear amber with lacing. Nice balance of malt and piney hops. Spice and honey notes. Great beer.

Transfer from BA review on 8-16-12 - Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer was served a medium amber color with a one finger white head. The head had a decent retention and faded to give a very nice level of lacing. Smell – The aroma was bready with hints of a buttery toffee and some light citrus and herbal hop aromas. Taste – The taste was as would have been perceived from the nose. Very malt forward with a light caramel flavor that greets the tongue. The sweetness soon becomes more buttery in nature, almost more of a toffee like flavor while the bready malt flavor remains strong. More towards the middle of the taste a lighter herbal and grassy hop flavor meet the tongue. While the brew is at 8% abv it does not have much of an alcohol presence and in the end one is left with a herbal bread taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker side with the carbonation level rather low. The lower carbonation and thicker more creamy body help accentuate the bready characteristics of the beer and are quite fitting. Overall – Much easier to drink then I would have expected with a decent flavor profile. Not too shabby.

A little astringent with some flowery hop aroma. Pours amber with good lacing and OK head. Light bitter finish. Some booze in aroma. Comes together decently. Tap at Max’s.

Bottle. Amber with off white head. Aroma and taste are mostly sweet malt and light fruitiness. Nothing exciting.

Pours a clear amber color with off-white head. Sweetness, some rye spice, and wheat on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes sweet.

Honey, a bit of rye spiciness, and a funky taste that I can’t place but I don’t like. Not like Belgian farmhouse funk, more just nasty. It starts going away after the first taste, but this is still not a very good beer.

A clear amber/golden pour with one finger of head. Aroma is moderate malty with citrus and a slight hop near the finish. Taste is moderately sweet with a medium body and a crisp citrus bitter finish a refreshing ale!!

Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Seasons 52 in King of Prussia, PA. Clear amber with an off-white head and good lacing. Malty aroma of caramel/toffee, raisin and a wide variety of other fruit that were not easily separated, plus a bunt of citrus. Taste of toasted malt, toffee, more mixed fruit, yeast and the same bare hint of citrus. Medium/full body and low/medium carbonization. Feels good on the tongue. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
